Afternoon Line

Players that embellish on a consistent basis run the risk of not receiving the benefit of the doubt when they are legitimately fouled. Brendan Gallagher is too effective and too good a player to develop that unwanted reputation from the refs.

-Kerry Fraser of TSN on the Gallagher incidents with the Jets yesterday.  More on the topic at TSN.

Fraiser’s truth is an indictment on the discretion given to officials to call the player rather than the infraction. We all know it happens, but it isn’t supposed to happen at all.

Which is nonsense, because if that were true, no one would give Tim Thomas the benefit of the doubt ever. Further, I daresay those who embellish should be penalized far more often for it. This “call only going one way” nonsense when there was clearly a dive involved should be nixed from the game.

As a fan of the game, few things frustrate me more than embellishment.

Who the f**k is Kerry Fraser to call BRENDAN GALLAGHER too good and too effective of a player of a player to embellish?

This is only his 2nd season, and his first one was lockout-shortened.

I’m not trying to bash Gallagher so much as Fraser’s ridiculous notion of “I EXPECT BETTER OUT OF YOU” for a guy who hasn’t yet played 100 career NHL games.  If Fraser has pre-conceived notions about young players, that’s his own fault.

well.  It’s the boy who called wolf!
If you embellish and fake often enough, when the real penalty comes don’t expect for everyone to believe you.

Except, of course, Luongo, Gallagher isn’t a diver. Fraser’s rationale here is as out to lunch as his entire NHL reffing career was.
