“We’re not very good, we haven’t been very good for a while. We’ve been fooling ourselves with finding ways to come back and get points — tie games and get to overtime — probably the last month-and-a-half. We haven’t been good enough, and we gotta be better as a group.”

Really? not very good? Well Shane, why don’t you give us Oliver Eckman for Quincey, Nyuist, Jurco and a 1st rounder? That way you get some scoring depth, a replacement in D, a prospect and a 1st? Good deal anyone?

Hell, as long as you’re giving away players, why not throw in Mrazek and Tatar. Of course, Phoenix would have to include a third-rounder along with Ekman-Larsson if Petr and Tomas were included.

Good deal anyone?

Just so there’s no mistake, your suggestion is a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad deal.

Well perhaps it is, but Eckman larrson is a prodigy if you see him play. Take a look at some you tube vids that make our defenseman look like high schoolers. lol. But to get something of good quality you need to give something up. No one is going to take cleary, Sammy, quincey and a 3rd rounder for someone like a Crosby or getzlaf or eckman.

Ekman-Larsson is worth quite a lot. That deal he suggested was maybe an exaggeration but not by too much. He’s more of a sure thing than any of the young guys the Wings could trade, much less would trade.

My bet is he makes a big splash in the Olympics.

As precipitously as Chara has slipped over the last few years, and as much as Seabrook is overvalued by playing with Keith and behind those forwards so much, I’d say Ekman-Larsson was probably tied for sixth with Kronwall.  Another ~25 minutes of ice time where the puck actually leaves the defensive zone without two-to-three extra passes would go much further than you think, and that’s ignoring that he’s better defensively than anyone the Wings have save Kronwall, Ericsson and DeKeyser.

Quincey-Nyquist-Jurco and a first is essentially a third pairing defenseman, a really good third line offensive forward who is slightly above average on the second and below average on the top line, and a forward who probably projects to being a similar player next year (slightly more offensive capabilities, slightly less defensive capabilities and speed).  I’d probably prefer to move Tatar in a deal like that (if he could replace Nyquist and Jurco alongside Quincey) but I highly doubt Pheonix would take either.  The reality is everyone knows there’s maybe 10-12 real top defenseman out there and no one is eager to get rid of any of them.
