"I'll make that same hit over and over again. Just because I had a hearing or a suspension isn't going to change it. It is harder to hit small guys when you're taller. You have to get down to come through instead of just coming through because you have to change your levels. It's a little bit harder, but at the same time, I'm not going to change anything."

-Jared Cowen of the Ottawa Senators on the hit he made on Zemgus Girgensons and received a two game suspension for it.

Much more fro Ian Mendes of TSN.

Pronger Fizziks is now Cowen Fizziks.

The lesson here of course is that it’s ok to elbow star players in the head, just don’t hit young, lesser players or by God the NHL is coming after you!

And there’s your suspension success story, behavior changed…..oh wait….what?

Great to hear him so remorseful….I’m sure Pavel feels better about the elbow he got from this neanderthal.

he won’t change anything until he’s a “repeat offender” and the punishment starts escalating to the point where his career is threatened and then he might change… if he even can

while I will give him it probably IS harder to hit a smaller guy in the shoulder it still beats being a smaller guy getting hit by a big oaf. The smaller guy needs to learn how to protect himself and the bigger guy needs to learn how to hit properly.

based on the Datsyuk elbow and this hit to the head, it sort of appears to me the main culprit for Cowen isn’t so much his poor decision making or predatory style but more his lack of physical ability/coordination to keep up with high end NHL skaters. So it’s not so much an issue of “targeting” the head or going after guys to make a statement, but rather trying to make regular plays and missing terribly.

He can’t run with the big dogs. In other words, he’s out of his League.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Smaller guys like Girgenson are almost asking for it. Dude is only a 6’1” 190 lbs 19 year old. You can’t ask a tower like Cowen to be able to hit someone that small cleanly.

Wait, what? How many players in the league are larger than Girgenson, is it even more than half? By how much? What an absurd excuse.
