Sidney Crosby when asked this question...

Is it necessary for a player to start a fight after a teammate is hit legally?

"That’s been around for years. I don’t see a problem with that. I don’t see a problem with Thornton going over to [Orpik] and asking him to fight. That’s the response. But to do what he did was totally unnecessary. It’s terrible. I’m sure he knows that more than everybody. He’s made a living at protecting his teammate and sticking up for them. But to confront [Orpik] and ask him to fight, I think every team wants a player like that. There’s nothing wrong with that. But to do what he did to him is not acceptable. He could have done the exact same thing and gotten a two-minute minor for five shifts in a row. There’s nothing wrong with it. … there’s nothing with [Orpik] saying no either. He’s got to play 25 minutes a night against top guys."

No, it actually hasn’t.  Stop trying to revise history.

End of discussion.

You’re saying fights after clean hits started less than two years ago?

You’re wrong. You’re not even trying to “revise history,” you’re just wrong.

When did I say that?

If you think every single decent hit has always resulted in a stoppage of play and a scrum/fight, you obviously never watched hockey in the 80’s or early 90’s.

We’re not talking about the BIG hits, or the clearly dirty ones.  We’re talking EVERY SINGLE HIT now need to somehow be “answered”.

That is, in fact, a fairly recent development and evolution of it.  And to claim otherwise is to be very, very, completely wrong.  It wasn’t that long ago that even the very dirty hits often went with no immediate response.

Look at the question: “Is it necessary for a player to start a fight after a teammate is hit legally?

Notice how nowhere in there does it say “big”, or “dirty”, or anything except “hit legally”?

You pretty clearly said it hasn’t been happening for years.  It’s been happening for the entirety of Crosby’s career and if you think that isn’t “years” then maybe you’ve had a bunch of mini strokes and you need to see the doctor.
