VAN's Bieksa calls out Couture and Thornton for embellishing calls. "It's a lack of integrity."

Bieksa - “Thornton, another so-called Canadian ... He gets slashed, takes his glove off, shakes his hand."

Bieksa: “Couture has been snapping his head back. This isn’t my opinion. The evidence is in the video.”

More Bieksa: “Those are 2 Canadian guys who are supposed to be playing the game with integrity. Maybe our team has to do more of that.”

Almost as ironic as Pitt bitching about headshots.

Maybe they’re calling it this way because your team repeatedly makes the refs look stupid embellishing your own shit?

Reap what you sew Kev

Well in Bieksa’s defense, Thornton and Couture DO embellish more than the average player…in Thornton’s case to the point of obnoxious hilarity.

I love how in your minds Thornton going down somehow excuses Franzen swinging his stick at nothing but Thornton’s legs.  He wasn’t even pretending to make a play.

Pretty sure Franzen isn’t making a play because the whistle blew.  Let’s be honest if I was 6foot 4 or however huge Thornton is a love tap to a completely padded area would not make me fall down and scream bloody murder.

Swinging his stick. Ha. I don’t think that anyone tried to excuse Franzen from that (although it is the weakest slash in the history of the NHL), rather we just feel that Thornton deserves to be treated like the complete bitch that he is.

Yeah, between these two teams there’s going to be a ton of diving and embellishment. Beiksa need look no further than his own backyard where the Sedin sisters are falling all over themselves.

Even better.  A player swings his stick at another player’s legs, after the whistle, and the worst thing about the sequence is the victim falling down?  Seriously?  That’s the stance you want to take?

RoneFace, come on, man. That slash had zero mustard on it. Jumbo Joe embellishes. Not the first time. Sorry to expose your hero.

Oh shit, I know what the problem is.  RoneFace, that gif has been doctored.  Franzen didn’t actually cut off Thornton’s legs, he just sort of tapped Thornton, who embellished.

Not my hero at all.  Just think it’s ludicrous to pretend what Thornton did is somehow worse than what Franzen did just because Franzen didn’t swing as hard as he possibly could, or used 1 hand instead of 2.  If Thornton did that to Datsyuk would you let it slide because he put “zero mustard on it?”  You’d be screaming bloody murder about using the stick as a weapon and suspensions and revenge and all that stuff.

I’d prefer that every player do everything possible to stay on their feet and not draw attention to something an opponent did, but we both know the referees simply are not reliable enough to say they catch everything.  I don’t condone or endorse or defend embellishment but I do think embellishing something that actually happened is quite a bit different than pretending something happened that really didn’t.  To me, and maybe I’m different than you are, that’s a different level of dishonesty.

You watch any hockey Rone?  I see love taps harder than that on a regular basis.  I only see people doing the Thornton who have reputations for doing Thorntons.

And Franzen swinging his stick somehow negates all the diving BOTH these teams do?  Feel that gust of wind rustling your hair?

Datsyuk wouldn’t have fallen on the ground and rolled around in mock pain like a little baby.

Datsyuk has zero reputation as a diver.

Jumbo Joe is comfortable on the 25 foot platform or the springboard.

Right, it always boils down to “do you even watch the game?”  I watch plenty, and my point was what that Franzen play shows a player swinging his stick dangerously at another player after the whistle had blown.  I think most people without a real bias would probably agree.  And yet it was posted here, with something that had nothing to do with the Red Wings.

So you’re saying it matters how hard a player uses his equipment like a weapon?  Who judges that?  What’s the criteria?  Is there a scale that you have access to that you can share with the rest of the world?

Datsyuk wouldn’t have fallen on the ground and rolled around in mock pain like a little baby.

I’m sure in the long history of the Detroit Red Wings no player has ever taken a dive or embellished a call.  Even if he hadn’t fallen down, you’d still be screaming about suspensions and criminal charges and how the league CLEARLY still has it out for the Wings.  You’d be screaming so loud, in fact, that you wouldn’t be able to hear the rest of the hockey world laughing at you.

Anyone who plays the game knows that those shin guards are designed to protect you from 100mph slapshots. A tap like that you will barely even notice. Thornton’s dive was pathetic, end of story.

Rone, claiming that Franzen is swinging his stick “in a dangerous manner” is a monumental overstatement. A simple tap on the FRONT of the pads to indicate your displeasure at being shoved in the back (also after the whistle by the way) is anything but dangerous. Jesus Christ its how teammates congratulate each other on a good play. You dont see them rolling around on the ice then!

As for Bieksa, any player who plays on the same team with names such as Burrows & Lapierre has no business accusing others of diving, even if its true. As mentioned earlier, reap what you sow.

If he swung his stick dangerously then Thornton’s reaction wouldn’t be embellishment.

If you remember, Thornton pitchforked Franzen’s injured ankle on the play, knowing it was injured.  That’s why Franzen came back at him.
