Its not his goal scoring ability people doubt.  Frankly I think everyone knows what he’s capable of offensively.  Its the fact his game stops there.  And I was a fan of his, hoping he’d “get it” and become a bonified top 6 player who can play defensively against top talent too.  He doesn’t have the work ethic for bottom 6 forechecking.  Hes going to have to prove he’s willing to round out his game.  Asking him to score goals is asking him to cherrypick.

His goal scoring has always been in doubt because he’s a slight upgrade from Helm. He could score goals in niche situations but outside of that, no.

He’s never been consistent and never will be because he thinks he’s above having to play defense.

No comparison between Athanasiou’s and Helm’s hands or
moves at full speed and overall offensive ability, including shot.

I still like AA and it costs me and the Wings nothing to wish him well in LA.

He will never be a well-rounded player let alone a checker.
But I’m wondering if a virtuous circle of more minutes more goals
more opportunities and more responsibility, plus the realization from last season and off season of how badly things can go off track when he’s not on his game and producing might motivate him to be more aware and put in more effort on the other side of the puck.

McLellan is right: AA should be a min 20 goal scorer in any full season,
even without any doubt particular puck luck or inflated shooting percentages.
In an eighty game season he should flirt with thirty goals. His rate of production season before last was pretty good given average mins and opportunities on a pretty bad team.
