A Superstar In The Making

from Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press,

With the Twitter and trade talk behind him, Evander Kane is creating a new kind of conversation with his all-star calibre play.

The Jets forward has blown up on the NHL scene, with a scorching start to the season that has him 47th in league scoring with 21 points.

His 14 goals are fourth best in the NHL and has people league-wide discussing his potential all-star status.

Kane will need to keep up his pace and maybe even increase it to get the nod but the NHL’s hockey operations types have taken notice.

Very premature.  He has a long, long ways to go.

All-Star and superstar do not mean the same thing.

I will always like Evander Kane for one-punching Matt Cooke (at least until Winnipeg becomes a conference rival for Detroit and I have to deal with him playing against my team multiple times per season).

Evander Kane has about the same Q-rating as Max Talbot and the only people who call either of them “superstar” are doing so sarcastically.

People violently overuse the term superstar

I saw the headline and assumed this was going to be about Giroux.  Kane should have a very good career in the NHL and being out of the Thrasher organization should really help him but I don’t know if Superstar status is in his future.

Very premature.  He has a long, long ways to go.

Hence the phrase “in the making”?
