A Samsonov Comeback and Winter Classic Alumni Training Camp

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,

• Larionov said his client Sergei Samsonov, the one-time Oilers winger, will be getting a tryout with the San Jose Sharks, if there is an NHL training camp. Samsonov, who was on the Oilers’ 2006 team, didn’t play at all last season.

• Larionov will be playing in the old-timers Toronto Maple Leafs-Detroit Red Wings game on Jan. 1 if there is a Winter Classic. “(Teammate Kris) Draper has already started a camp, so we’re ready for Toronto,” said the chuckling former Detroit centre.

from Joe Haggerty of CSNNE,

The report in the Journal stated Samsonov’s agent, Igor Larionov, said the Russian winger and former top-10 first round pick would be in camp with the Sharks if the CBA was completed in a timely fashion.

That might be a nice little scoop if Larionov was, in fact, Samsonov’s agent.

But Abbott was, is and will continue to be the agent for the former Bruins, Oilers, Canadiens, Blackhawks, Panthers and Canes winger, and he indicated nothing has been agreed to between his client and the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks issued a “no comment” when asked to confirm the signing by CSNBayArea.com reporter Kevin Kurz on Tuesday in keeping with Abbott’s consistent message.

The only thing that’s 100 percent accurate: Samsonov is definitely coming back after sitting the 2011-12 hockey season.

“Sergei is definitely making a comeback,” said Abbott to CSNNE.com. “He is skating with Igor in Detroit, but Larionov is not his agent. I am speaking with several teams and we have not made a deal with the San Jose Sharks.”
