A particularly hideous chapter in hockey history ends

To say this news should have come sooner is an understatement. Via the CBC:

Former junior hockey coach and convicted sex offender Graham James has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting former NHL star Theoren Fleury and another man.

James entered the guilty pleas in a Winnipeg courtroom on Wednesday afternoon. He and his lawyer appeared in court via teleconference from Montreal, where James currently lives.

James will be sentenced in Winnipeg on Feb. 22, 2012, the CBC’s Marisa Dragani reported from the courtroom.

The latest case involves nine sex-related charges against three players he used to coach in the minor hockey ranks, including Fleury.

I hope he gets molested where he’s going… with a broom handle

This is a tragedy.  He really ruined a lot of lives.  Abuse has far reaching consequences that are deep and long term.  The fact that he only previously served two years in prison is a joke.

Didn’t this creep get a Pardon from a Canadian Court a few years ago.?  They should throw away the key.

I would not be the least bit sad if somebody tracked Graham James down and killed him. Just dragged his sick carcase out into the street and flensed him alive, right there.

If I can’t have that, then they should do with him what I think should be done with all child molesters: throw him into gen pop at the nastiest maximum-security prison in the US with the words CHILD RAPIST tattooed on his forehead, and let the other inmates have at him while the guards conveniently look the other way.

Bloodthirsty?  Yes. But I think I have a bit of a right to be more than a little militant and bloodthirsty when it comes to stuff like this.

There will be no safe place in prison for James.

Finally, now will the Canadian system provide real justice? Will Mike Jefferson (Danton) come to terms with what happened to him? I can only hope he gets the help to move on from this as well. Kudos to Theron for having the guts to confront this and go public. Of course Sheldon deserves huge credit. It is about time there is justice!!

Child molestation has always happened, but generally been hushed if it was someone prominent. or for a host of other reasons. There are enough people speaking out and advocating for victims that society might finally be hitting a point where it will pass unseen far less often.

For the sake of the vulnerable, I sure hope so.
