from Gordon McIntyre of the Vancouver Province,
If you’d never heard Hughson call Olympics hockey or any of his work on CBC, TSN, Sportsnet, ABC, ESPN, EA Sports NHL—if you just looked at all the stops he’s made along the way (including voice of the Leafs), you’d think, “This guy can’t hold a job.”
“You name the Canadian network and I’ve had paycheques from them,” Hughson, fresh off covering some White Rock trails on a morning run, said with a laugh when the question is put to him.
With a six-year contract from CBC in his pocket to be Ma Corp’s top hockey broadcaster, replacing
75-year-old Bob Cole, who’s being eased out, Hughson is looked upon by most as the best broadcaster in Canada. (Although Chris Cuthbert is no slouch, Hughson out-Geminis him 5-2.)
