A Good Chance The Buffalo Sabres Will Buy Out Ville Leino

from John Vogle of Sabres Edge at the Buffalo News,

Ville Leino remains the NHL's most likely buyout candidate, but there hasn't been much talk between the Sabres and his agent.

"I have had few very short discussions about Leino with Tim Murray," Leino's agent, Markus Lehto, told The News by email.

Murray, Buffalo's general manager, has said it's a "very good possibility" the team will part ways with Leino. The NHL buyout period will begin 48 hours after the Stanley Cup final ends and continue until June 30.

It will cost the Sabres $7.333 million to buy out the remaining three seasons of Leino's contract. The team signed him to a six-year, $27 million deal in 2011, and he's already been paid $16 million.

At $4.5M, Leino had the highest cap hit on the Sabres team. He scored zero goals and was paid $300,000 for each of his 15 assists.

When he’s bought out, I can’t see how Holland could possibly not jump at the chance to bring him back along with Buckets. I’d say three years at $3M for each of them would be about right. And, of course, no trade clauses for both. grin

hahahaha!

Holland was correct to let Leino go when he demanded too much money, but Holland will never get credit for it on these boards!

Um, Holland traded Leino to the Flyers, he didn’t let him go into FA. That was Holmgren that let him walk when he wanted that much money, who will also get no credit for making that decision.

If Leino gets the deal Cleary got (1 year 1.75) it might be worth considering if other options don’t pan out.
