Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Tony Gallager of the Vancouver Province,
What happens if they move Schneider and Luongo decides he doesn’t want to come back? Granted that’s unlikely because it means Vancouver wouldn’t have to pay him and could actually find a way to walk from his deal. But suppose he meant what he said when he intoned that his contract “sucked” and he’d do away with it if he could. Sure, he was probably bullbleeping, but that would certainly make for a new season in this series which is clearly Breaking Bad for the Canucks.
This isn’t over, and who knows? Perhaps Gillis pulls a rabbit out of the hat tomorrow and moves Luongo. St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong was saying Friday in an approving manner that he felt Vancouver was right to hang onto an asset like Luongo when giving him away was the other option, so perhaps the Blues are interested.
Perhaps they or some other team might take Luongo straight up on waivers. It wouldn’t change the fact these guys have totally misread the tea leaves in this mess.
It wouldn’t bring back any assets. It wouldn’t change the fact that they could have assets — no matter how small — had they acted earlier, but it would certainly be a burden lifted off ownership and it would allow them to go with the better goalie in the game’s most important position.
