3 Most Expensive Games For Toronto Maple Leafs Are At Home Against Habs, Oilers & Blackhawks

By Joe Sudberg,

With no expectations to make any large amount of noise in the Eastern Conference, one of the most prominent franchises in the NHL can play loose, try to win games, and see what happens from there. That’s the mindset of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are still trying to find themselves after a back-breaking defeat in the first round of the 2013 playoffs.

There’s a new front office, a new roster and more importantly, a new look as a whole. Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock were brought in to straighten out the program and have made an immediate impact.

James van Riemsdyk will be the backbone of the team on the ice after the departure of Phil Kessel, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Maple Leafs also traded with the New York Islanders, acquiring Michael Grabner, and took a chance on P.A. Parenteau on a one-year deal.

One thing that is set in stone is that Maple Leafs fans will attend the games, no matter what position the franchise is in. With the season opener less than a week away, below are the most expensive Maple Leafs tickets on the secondary market, with information provided by SeatSmart.com.

1/23/2016 | Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens | Air Canada Centre | Average Price: $469.71 | Get-in Price: $136

11/30/2015 | Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Edmonton Oilers | Air Canada Centre | Average Price: $403.09 | Get-in Price: $83

1/15/2016 | Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Chicago Blackhawks | Air Canada Centre | Average Price: $397.33 | Get-in Price: $91

2/27/2016 | Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs | Bell Centre | Average Price: $368.13 | Get-in Price: $122

The most expensive game of the season is on January 23 against the Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Centre, with an average ticket price of $469.71 and a get-in price of $136. The Maple Leafs’ most expensive road game is also against Montreal. Canadiens tickets on the secondary market for their game against the Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre on February 27 have an average price of $368.13 and a get-in price of $122.

Four home games lead the list for most expensive tickets for the Maple Leafs, as games against the Edmonton Oilers and defending Stanley Cup Champions follow suit after No. 1 on the list. The Blackhawks game has a higher get-in price ($91 compared to $83), but the average price is higher for the game against the Oilers ($403.09 compared to $397.33). Matchups featuring two franchises from Canada usually gain more traction on the secondary ticket market and that trend shows up once again here, which is why a downtrodden team like the Oilers is commanding a bigger price-tag than that of last year’s Stanley Cup champs.
