Are the Carolina Hurricanes almost 50 percent better than they were last year? While that question is difficult to answer quantifiably, the Canes’ ticket prices are 46 percent more expensive this season than they were last year, hence the unanswerable query.
This year at PNC Arena, the average price for Carolina Hurricanes tickets is $114, whereas last year’s was $78.
So what’s new?
For one, they’ve retooled their blue line, though those additions come with the asterisks of Ron Hainsey and Mike Komisarek. Both received big contracts in the past, only to disappoint. Komisarek, in fact, only played in four games last season. Hainsey showed improvement last season after two slumping campaigns. He’ll hope to build on that momentum in his first campaign as a Hurricane. The Canes also brought over stay-at-home D-Man Andrej Sekera from Buffalo, who’ll provide some defensive stability and a strong shot from the point.
Up front is where the Canes are dangerous. Last season’s big surprise came in the form of forward Jiri Tlusty, who had 38 points in 48 games. They’ll need more of a two-way effort from Jeff Skinner, however; the first round pick was a -21 last season. And, of course, there are the Staal brothers. We know about the prolific scoring of Eric, but Jordan pitched in as well last season, looking good in the shortened campaign. He was, however, saddled with a -18. As a whole the Canes’ forwards need to become more responsible with the puck. The exception to that gripe is Alexander Semin, who throughout his career has been a devastating scorer as well as a responsible puck-handler who makes it back into the defensive end.
Here are the five most expensive contests at PNC Arena this season.
- March 16 vs Edmonton - Avg Price: $316 | Get-in Price: $12 | 177% above home avg
- March 29 vs Columbus - Avg Price: $277 | Get-in Price: $12 | 143% above home avg
- January 19 vs Canadiens - Avg Price: $269 | Get-in Price: $15 | 136% above home avg
- January 27 vs Columbus - Avg Price: $267 | Get-in Price: $12 | 134% above home avg
- March 11 vs Rangers - Avg Price: $253 | Get-in Price: $14 | 122% above home avg
