A Trio Of Devils Information

image

Now that school has started for me, the ease of getting to a computer becomes limited to early in the morning, and very late at night. For my absense on the website for the past couple of days I apologize. Now that things are slowly calming down, I figured I would get back into things here on KK. I have news on the Devils bankruptcy rumor, some player who will be joining the Devils on a tryout, and some other interesting bits of information.

Parise Looks To Remain A Devil

image

Lets call a spade a spade. The Devils need Zach Parise. There is no other way around it. He has become the name assosciated with this franchise after Brodeur began to wear down. Walk around inside the Prudential Center, and you’ll see a majority of the jersey’s of the fans donning his last name. With a one year deal signed this offseason in an effort to avoid arbitration, Parise has moved on step closer to free agency. However, in a recent interview, he has made it clear that he would like to remain in New Jersey, and not take his services to any other club.

Two former Devils, and a few other former NHL stars were on board the plane, and sadly perished. Devils prospect Alexander Vasyunov has passed away at the age of 23. Karel Rachunek has also perished at the age of 32.

Janssen Offer His Thoughts

image

With the recent deaths of three NHL enforcers, it was only a matter of time until one of them decided to speak up on their behalf. Cam Janssen has started to speak about the hockey life, the difficulties of being an enforcer, and the depression and hard times that comes with the job.

Rich Chere of The Star Ledger reports:

“I think it has something to do with the job. Absolutely,” Janssen said. “People look at the fame and the money part of pro athletes and they don’t understand how hard and stressful it can be. Listen, I have the absolute coolest job in the world, but it’s also one of the most stressful jobs in the world, too.”

Niedermayer Moves Closer To Having Number Retired

image

It looks like Devils fans will be seeing a new number hanging from the rafters in the very near future. The latest number to have some buzz surrounding it goes to Scott Niedermayer, and his #27 sweater. This would also keep the line of retired numbers to only defenseman. Though not 100% confirmed there are reports that the Devils will retire Niedermayer’s number this December during a home game against Dallas, but that date and opponent could easily change.

Elias Strong Play Will Be Vital

image

When the New Jersey Devils selected Patrik Elias with the 51st pick in the 1994 NHL entry draft, I don’t think they knew the type of player he would blossom into. Coming from HC Kladno, Elias wasn’t exactly putting up points that would make your head spin. However, the Devils saw something in the Czech winger and decided to role the dice. Many successful seasons later, Elias is one of the best Devils to ever put on the sweater.

Per Colin Stephenson of The Star Ledger:

The Devils announced the signings of 12 players to new contracts, including 19 year-old goaltender Maxime Clermont, their sixth round pick in 2010, and free agent defenseman Peter Harrold, who spent the last five seasons in the L.A. Kings’ organization.

Could The Devils Benefit From Chris Drury?

image

The New Jersey Devils received news about 48 hours ago that Travis Zajac will miss anywhere from 8-10 weeks after undergoing Achilles surgery. 8-10 weeks is an estimate, keep in mind, meaning that the top line center could miss more time then originally expected. One wrong turn could put him on the shelf for the rest of the year. Devils coach Peter DeBoer will ultimately begin to switch up lines in order to help even everything out in New Jersey.

At the same time of the Zajac news, came some other interesting news: Chris Drury has retired. If I was the Devils GM, my eyebrow would of raised immediately.

Zajac Will Miss Time

image

Per Brian Compton of the NHL

“Devils GM Lou Lamoriello confirmed Thursday that Travis Zajac, who finished third on the club last season with 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists), will miss the first month and a half of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon. Zajac suffered the injury Wednesday during an off-ice training workout.”
