Fired Up In Vancouver

from the Vancouver Province,

Playoff madness is back!
Vancouver hockey fans will experience the excitement and emotion of playoff action for the first time in three years after the Canucks officially clinched a post-season berth with last night’s 3-0 NHL win over the Colorado Avalanche
“It’ll be huge,” said pub owner Bruce McGregor, who is gearing up for playoff crowds downtown at Jester’s Grill and Tap Room, Smiley O’Neal’s, and the Point Pub in Port Moody. “I couldn’t tell you what the [dollar] numbers would be, but I’m sure our business will jump 30 per cent or even more on those playoff nights.”

Looking At The Twins

from Grant Kerr of the Globe and Mail,

“I’ve always been a strong supporter of the twins since they got here,” veteran Trevor Linden said. “They always took some criticism that I felt was unfair.
“Not only are they great players, they’re durable. Their strongest suit is they never seem to get too high, or too low when things don’t go well. They’re just steady. They’re fun to watch for their creativity and intelligence of their playmaking.
“And they’re still getting better. They are so smart and so talented with their sticks and hands.”...
“We’ve been working every summer [to get stronger] and it’s taken a while,” Henrik said last week. “We think we’re strong in the corners and can take pucks to the net, which wasn’t the case a couple of years back.
“I don’t care about scoring goals. If your team is scoring goals, that’s what matters.”

Luongo & His Coach

from the Vancouver Province,

One is the detail-obsessed teacher oozing information, complete with endless binders, charts, graphs and diagrams.
The other is the star pupil with a voracious appetite to learn and an uncanny ability to process knowledge rapidly, taking it from the classroom to the crease to the game.
Together, goalie Roberto Luongo and his goalie coach Ian Clark have spent untold hours this season exchanging ideas, compromising and bonding, combining to help Luongo significantly adjust his game.

What’s Next For Canucks

from the Vancouver Sun,

By going 15-2-2 the last six weeks and winning these recent games so impressively, dispatching Stanley Cup contenders as if they were pocket lint and treating them the way the Conservatives treat British Columbia—that annoying, foreign hinterland land west of Canada’s Rocky Mountain border—the Canucks can’t possibly be underrated by anyone any longer.
In other words, they’re doomed. What will fuel them now that they have earned everyone’s respect? They have un-dissed themselves. What now for motivation?
Well, there is that Presidents’ Trophy thingy.
Partly because the Red Wings and Predators went pointless in Vancouver, the Buffalo Sabres top the NHL standings with 101 points. The Canucks are only five behind and closing faster than Britney Spears’ career.
Vancouver Canucks. Presidents’ Trophy winners?

Road Trip Diary

Over at Canucks and Beyond, Alanah asked a Canucks fan to write a piece on her recent visit to the Shark Tank…

It took 17 hours straight by car but me and my hockey buddy made it just in time to watch the Canucks kick Shark butt on Friday March 9. Why a road trip? Why not! Visiting the enemy is always a fun experience.

Vancouver Could Be The Surpise Of The Playoffs

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

The Canucks look like they will be a force in the playoffs. I have a suspicion they might be the Oilers of 2006 or the Flames of 2004.
The Canucks have an all-world goalie in Roberto Luongo. (Now, really, did anyone think the Wings were going to rally from that 3-1 deficit after two periods Saturday?) It’s similar to what the Wings enjoy when Dominik Hasek is on his game.
It makes all the difference in the world when you have the confidence of knowing that your goalie will not surrender a lead in the third period.

Bra Tossing

I think Alanah of Canucks & Beyond may have hurried off to the bar after her live blogging of the Wings?Canucks game last night.
Watch closely!

Note To Canucks Fans

We know tossing a bra onto the ice has become the “in” thing to do after Jeff Cowan scores a goal, but I must ask- Why are men tossing bras onto the ice?  I just don’t get it.
And make sure not to toss the bra onto the ice unless your team is winning- Don’t be like the Nashvill fans who toss catfish onto the ice when they are down 3-1.
