Kukla's Korner Hockey
I tried folks, I really tried to let my feeling for Alex Kovalev die out. I tried not to have think about him in a Sens uniform anymore, shuffling on an off the ice like a petulant child after not being given what he wanted. I was thrilled when he “left” the NHL for the KHL thinking that I’d never have to think, write, speak about him again and then comes his interview where he rips all things Ottawa.
Yeah, Clouston was not the greatest coach in league history, and yeah maybe he didn’t always communicate with the players, but to say he should have treated players kindly is a joke. You play hockey for a living, getting paid millions of dollars and your concern is getting treated kindly? Sorry AK27, maybe showing some effort, heart, or enthusiasm would have resulted in more positive treatment from the coach, and more ice time. Maybe, just maybe, it would have resulted in the Sens being able to trade you for something higher than a LAST round pick (the pro sports version of a bag of pucks).
Hello Sens faithful. As the summer days tick away and we get closer to training camp opening, I find myself looking at the Sens roster and wondering if Bryan Murray is going to make another move. Maybe a depth defenseman? Maybe another bottom 6 forward? Currently, the Sens sit at a shade under
$55M for the season (thank you, cap geek) so there is definitely room to take on some additional salary. Whether Mr. Melnyk wants to sign over more money is another subject altogether.
I’d love to see a 3rd line forward that can pick up some slack in the event that some of the young guys trail off during the season; some solid 10-15 goal production combined with a little “sandpaper” (as the experts call it). If Trent Hunter is available (he’s rumoured to be getting bought out), I’d scoop him up in a second. He’s got size, toughness, and (best of all) he’ll be cheap. Think of him as a very short-term insurance policy that you don’t have to expect a lot from. He’s been fairly responsible in his own zone (except in 07-08 where he was a -17) with a team like the Islanders, so he could be relied on to chip in a few goals and throw some hits.
Allow us to introduce you to Ravi, posting as ‘Sensational’ and covering (you guessed it) the Ottawa Senators this season on KK. He’s written a short introduction below, and you can see a sample of his views on the Sens here, a post he provided for Kukla’s Korner last week. Welcome, Ravi!
Thanks for tuning in Sens fans. My name is Ravi and I am a Sen-a-holic. I’ve loved the team since they rejoined the league and beat the Canadiens in their first game back. It’s been an up and down ride ever since. The highest point coming in, you guessed it, 2007 when they Sens reached the finals. The lowest? Daigle, Yashin, Heatley, Paddock’s tie, that damned gladiator opening up the playoffs a few seasons back? Take your pick. We’ve learned to look at the humourous side of things (learned, forced…potato, potatoe). Here’s hoping that my attempt at chronicling the humorous side of being a Sens fans makes you laugh as much it does me.
