Empty Netters asked Pens fans to submit their opinions of the new Penguins sweater…
“As a female hockey fan, I applaud any company that finally makes a jersey that comes in a size small so female fans can show their team spirit - in the team colors (not a ridiculous pink version) in a size that does not overwhelm us.
If the players like the new uniforms and they represent the image of the team well, there shouldn’t be any whining by the non-players. I think the minor changes to the striping and the sleeves jazz it up a bit. They don’t make that much of a change, nor are they completely out of place. We have our trusty skating penguin logo and our black and gold. What more could you want?...”

Minnesota’s New Jerseys

From the Minnesota Wild team website
The Minnesota Wild announced a new, yet familiar look on Friday when it unveiled its 2007 version of the RBK Edge uniforms. While all 30 National Hockey League teams will be playing with newly-designed uniforms, some have made drastic changes. The Wild has remained true to its original design with several minor changes.
The most notable change appears on the team’s Iron Range Red home sweater, which will move up in status from the “third” jersey to become the team’s primary home sweater, replacing the green from years past. That change comes in the form of a new wheat-colored shoulder yolk and the removal of the forest green striping at the waist.

Crosby Switching To RBK Stick

via Sports Business Journal (paid sub.),
For the past four years, including his first two NHL seasons, Crosby has used Sher-Wood brand sticks under an endorsement contract that the Pittsburgh Penguins star signed with the Quebec-based company when he was 16 years old.
But that deal, which pays Crosby a reported $150,000 (Canadian) per year, will expire on Saturday, and Crosby is set to sign on to use RbK sticks, according to sources close to the talks.
This new deal would be an extension of an existing endorsement contract between RbK and Crosby, signed in 2005 and paying him a reported $500,000 (U.S.) per year. It was to be a head-to-toe arrangement making Crosby RbK’s signature athlete by wearing RbK skates, gloves, helmets and protective equipment. But thanks to the pre-existing Sher-Wood deal, the RbK-Crosby arrangement could not include sticks — a key performance tool for hockey players, and the hottest equipment category in the sport in years, according to manufacturers and retailers.

Fans- Prepare To Spend

from Erin Nicks at the Ottawa Sun,
We’re still nearly a month away from the opening of the NHL pre-season and it’s obvious that everyone’s desperate for a bit of something they can grab onto and discuss.
Right now, a team like the Senators is hoping that something is a bit of fabric manufactured by Reebok.
All NHL teams are in the process of unveiling their new RBK EDGE jerseys to the masses. The lighter, sleeker sweaters made their debut during last season’s all-star game in Dallas to mixed reviews from fans. Granted, it was difficult to make a firm assessment until everyone was able to see the uniforms presented in their preferred team’s colours.

The RBK Edge System

The equipment looks like it is going to be more fun than the old pants designs, and I want one of those undershirts bad. But you can see how the whole thing is treated like a system. It looks like the tucking the jersey into the pants thing was a myth, or RBK would have done it to their models. And with that fully dressed model, it doesn’t look like he has elbow pads on. Remember how the players at the All Star Game looked? Like Robocop. Time will tell, but at least this is a start.

If any person knows the “hockey sweater”, it is Tapeleg at Jerseys and Hockey Love.
His first review is in on the RBK design…
The shape isn’t as bad as I expected, but owning one would motivate me more to work on losing the beer gut. It certainly isn’t the traditional jersey cut, and I love the cut of the old jerseys. It’s part of why I own so many. I suspect those audience members who like the covering or blanket-like effect of the current jerseys will not be to thrilled with these.
