Will Talbot Hold Cards Close To His Vest?

from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

The NHL hasn’t landed in Las Vegas yet, but Penguins forward Maxime Talbot is headed there hoping for riches.
Talbot has won his way into the main event of the World Series of Poker, a tournament that draws several thousand players, usually has a $10,000 entry fee and could make the winner $10 million or more.
It starts July 6.
“Everybody’s asking me about that,” Talbot said when he stopped by the Mellon Arena locker room while it was buzzing with the first day of conditioning camp for prospects.
“I’m kind of nervous. It’s a different kind of competition. I don’t know how well it’s going to go, but I’m pretty excited.”

Strong Message From Roberts

from Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

Roberts also agreed to a one-year deal even though he probably could have received two years from Ottawa or another team. At 41, he knows that second season isn’t promised to him. He’s worried about winning now. He thinks the Penguins give him the best opportunity.
If Roberts believes that strongly, it makes it a lot easier for the rest of us to believe. Remember, he is a guy who had to be talked into waiving his no-trade clause to come to Pittsburgh last season by Mario Lemieux. Now, they can’t lure him away.

The Crosby Impact

from Jim Kelley at Sportsnet,

At the moment Sidney Crosby’s name was being announced as the Lester B. Pearson award winner as the most valuable player as voted by members of the National Hockey League Players Association the CBC cameras zoomed in on the faces of Vincent Lecavalier of Tampa and Roberto Luongo of Vancouver.
Luongo had the look of a man disappointed but still with the hope of winning the Vezina as the league’s top goaltender. Lecavalier, meanwhile, had the look of a man who had just seen his first and last chance of winning the big one go by the boards.
Such is the impact of Sid the Kid on the NHL today.

Crosby Proud Of Pearson Trophy

from Ryan Dixon of the Hockey News,

When asked if the Pearson Award meant more to him because it was voted on by the players as opposed to the Hart - voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association - Crosby, facing a room full of hockey writers, made sure he didn’t slight his audience.
“I’m not going to say the writers’ opinion doesn’t matter,” chuckled Crosby, whose comment elicited laughs around the media room. “I’m in the wrong place for that.
“(The Pearson Award) is recognition from guys you’re playing against every night. Just to be recognized by them is something I can sit back and be proud of.”

All Colby Armstrong

from the StarPhoenix,

As a regular feature, StarPhoenix sports reporter Cory Wolfe gets personal with a sports figure. Today, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Colby Armstrong talks about winning the world hockey championship, dressing in drag and what it’s like to get chased by Sheldon Souray.
The SP: If you were writing a tell-all book about your teammate Sidney Crosby, which detail would be the juiciest?
Armstrong: I think he has a moat around his house with a dragon guarding the front gate.
The guy is a legend. He’s the only guy in the world with a dragon. I think Tim Hortons hired a dragon to guard him.
