Preds Against Wings

I received an email today from a Nashville Predators backer, basically stating the Wings were lucky to win last night due to the fact the Preds have some major injuries.
I responded back, well, the Wings are not using the injury excuse, since they have a few key players out too.
The response back was, and I quote, “Zetterberg doesn’t compare with Forsberg and Hartnell is better than Bertuzzi”.

Red In Nashville

from theTennessean,

That point will be proven again tonight as thousands of Detroit fans descend upon Gaylord Entertainment Center for the sold-out showdown between the NHL’s top two teams — the Predators and Red Wings.
The phenomenon began when the NHL awarded Nashville an expansion team in 1997.
Many Michigan natives had moved to the Nashville area in the 1990s after Detroit-based General Motors opened up a manufacturing plant in Spring Hill. They were thrilled when Nashville landed a team and many bought Predators season tickets.
But they weren’t about to turn their back on the Wings, who quickly became Nashville’s most hated rival.

Also from the Tennessean,

“We’re going to do the right thing for Peter,” Trotz said. “When he’s ready to play, he’s going to play. And if he’s not ready, we’re not going to force him into anything. We’ll probably see where is (today) and make a decision.”

Nashville Has The Potential

from Darren Eliot at Sports Illustrated,

I’ve been to Nashville many times over the years and always enjoy my time in the city. Now, this isn’t a travelogue piece, but my schedule brought me there over the weekend and I decided to spend my time as a diehard hockey fan. I took in two Predators games, multiple youth hockey games, and even went to the team’s Friday optional skate at their local practice rink.

Timonen Speaks On The Ice

from the Tennessean,

Quiet and unassuming, Predators captain Kimmo Timonen isn’t the kind of leader who expends his breath with a surplus of words….
He is what Predators Coach Barry Trotz refers to as a poor man’s Nick Lidstrom; he’s a gifted NHL defenseman but he doesn’t receive superstar attention — perhaps, in part, by his own design.
“He doesn’t get a lot of fan fair, you don’t hear him in the press a lot talking about different things. He just says, ‘I will show you on the ice,’” Trotz said.

Forsberg Close To Return

via the Tennessean,

Predators center Peter Forsberg was back on the ice on Friday, skating for the first time since he recorded three assists in a win over Los Angeles on March 3.
Forsberg didn’t go full-speed through practice and he probably won’t play tonight against Columbus. But Forsberg said he hopes to be ready either Tuesday or Wednesday, when the Predators play back-to-back games against Detroit….
Asked if Forsberg’s current ailment is something that bothered him before the trade, Poile smiled and said: “Well, what didn’t bother him in Philly or over his career? He’s had a lot of different things. I can tell you very confidently that he’s going to be back soon. This is more of a bumps-and-bruises kind of thing.”

The Nashville Arena

from the Nashville City Paper,

The Nashville Predators have notified Metro the team intends to drop the “Gaylord Entertainment Center” appellation of the downtown arena it calls home and to re-title the complex, at least for the time being, the “Nashville Arena.”...
Nashville Predators Executive Vice President Ed Lang notified Metro Sports Authority Chairman Kevin Lavender of the intended name change in a Feb. 26 letter, stating, “It is the Predators’ ultimate intention to secure a long-term naming rights partner for the facility. In the interim, though, we believe it most appropriate to return the venue identification to its original name — the Nashville Arena.”

Preds Suffer More Injuries

from the Tennessean,

The Predators lost two more players to injury Tuesday when center Scott Nichol suffered a broken thumb and defenseman Marek Zidlicky suffered an undisclosed upper-body injury.
Nichol said he took a two-handed slash to his hand from Detroit defenseman Brett Lebda near the end of the first period. No penalty was called on the play.
“Hopefully the league will review it and we’ll see what they say,’’ said Nichol, who expected to be out at least a couple of weeks.
It wasn’t immediately clear how Zidlicky suffered the injury. Coach Barry Trotz said he didn’t know how long the defenseman would be out, but didn’t think the injury was too serious.

Forsberg On Injury- “Nothing Major”

from the Tennessean,

The big question remains when Forsberg, acquired by the Predators in a monster deal just before the NHL trade deadline, will return to action. He said he’s doubtful for tonight but didn’t seem to think it would be too long before he’d be ready to play.
“I don’t think it’s severe,’’ Forsberg said. “(The Predators) don’t think it’s severe. I don’t think I’ll be gone that long.’‘
Forsberg chuckled at the air of mystery surrounding the injury, then added to it a bit by saying he didn’t want to talk about how or when it occurred.
“It’s not really a mystery – upper body is just what everyone says now,’’ Forsberg said. “But as you can see, I can walk around. It’s hard to talk about … but it’s nothing major.’‘

Forsberg Hurting

from the Tennessean,

It was pretty obvious to anyone who saw the Predators beat Los Angeles on Saturday that Legwand suffered his injury while blocking a Kings shot.
But Forsberg? He seemed fine in the locker room after Saturday’s contest, patiently answering questions after a three-assist performance.
Things apparently deteriorated after that.
“It felt sore during the game,’’ Predators Coach Barry Trotz said of the upper-body part in question. “(Saturday) night he had more of an indication that he was getting sore and when he woke up this morning, it was real sore.’‘
Trotz said the Predators planned to have Forsberg seek further medical attention.
