Kukla's Korner Hockey
- Teams are now allowed to make their sales pitch to any UFA player but cannot sign them to a contract until noon ET, July 5th.
- Still shaking my head on the decision by Vinny Lecavalier to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. I am not sure what the attraction was and if I am a Flyers fan, I'm still pinching myself.
- I have over the years interacted with a few folks from the Phoenix Coyotes and with that, I am so happy the team will be staying in Phoenix. I can imagine their stress level dropped and now they have to clear one more hurdle, will the new ownership group be making internal changes? I hope that is not the case and everyone can move forward and not face any more uncertainty.
- Many of you in the good old USA mayb be starting a long holiday weekend today or tomorrow. But not us here at KK.
We will be providing as much coverage as possible regarding the UFA period, which starts at noon ET on Friday. So plan on making KK a destination while you are enjoying the fireworks, hot dogs and a few pops.
- Note to Ken Holland: Wings need a pure goal scorer, his name is Jarome Iginla.
My plans for tonight are feet up first, then do anything I want to do from that position.
Of course, if any major news comes about, I will post, if not see you tomorrow morning.
In case you are wondering, KK won't slow down for around another month or so.
Compliance buyouts officially start tomorrow night, NHL Draft is Sunday at 3:00pm ET and UFA period begins on Friday, July 5th at noon ET.
Diabetic, strike one, heart issues, strike two and I plan to avoid strike three as long as possible.
First off, thanks to all of you who have commented and sent emails regarding and showing concern about my health, they were much appreciated and held close to my heart.
I am returning today but it will take me a few days to get into the swing of things. My health outlook moving forward is good, medication, diet and something I really need is a little rest.
So with that, let's get back to hockey and before we do, a big thanks goes out to George for not missing a beat while I was away.
May your day be filled with much love and happiness.
I've been doing what I do long enough to know readership goes down and the post-season progresses, then picks up as we get closer to the UFA period, then drops again in late July until the middle of August or so.
This season has been one where I feel like I have been in "catch-up" mode since losing some five months due to the lockout.
I wanted to do something for those of you who have remained dedicated to KK so here is a very limited offer for you.
How about an IceJerseys.com ecertificate for $250 made available to you for only $125?
No strings attached, no hoops to jump through except to email me now and purchase the ecertificate through me and have it delivered to your inbox, with no limitations on how you spend it.
There are no restrictions at all, you can purchase sale items with it, us it for shipping costs, etc.
I can only make four of these available to you, so to begin the highly discounted purchase, email me and be prepared to hear back from me quickly. Then you must complete the process within 20 minutes or the offer will go to the next person or until all four ecertificates are gone.
Start sending your emails right now.
update 6:21am, One is gone, three to go. .update 7:36am, Two down, two to go. Update 7:44am, one more to go. Update 9:39am, sorry, all the ecerts have been purchased. I will try to do this again next week and post at a different time so all get a chance.
Last week a truly deserving person asked me if I could get them two tickets to game 6, Wings/Blackhawks. I made a few calls, sent some emails and finally found someone who said, "no problem" and to contact him the day before the game to arrange the details.
Well, I contacted the source of the tickets yesterday- "oops, sorry, can't do" and so I have been trying to chase down two tickets for tonight's game since then with no luck.
I have been in panic mode the last 24 hours trying to find tickets for the deserving person, but then something hit me this morning.
Tickets, I am worried about tickets on Memorial Day? I now feel like a schmuck, concerned about something like that on a day when I should be thankful for what we have, freedom and all that goes along with that freedom.
People served in order to make this country what it is today, people died for our country and I am worried about tickets.
No more, never again, will I be on edge for something as petty as this.
Thank you to all who are serving and have served our country, this day belongs to you.
After spending 15 of the last 17 hours in the emergency room of a local hospital dealing with a few issues caused by being a diabetic, I am vowing to begin a new day today.
Enjoying a bit of the Memorial Day Weekend is one thing I will do today but first I wanted to thank George for his big-time help with the hockey section of KK.
I know what he goes through to deliver all the Wings news to his readers and then stepping up to do additional work on KKH is much appreciated.
Now on to hockey talk. I was able to follow most of the Wings/Blackhawks game thanks to devices like a tablet and smart phone and the only thing I can say about the game is they go back at it tomorrow.
Now it is Detroit's turn to make adjustments, get a little more motivated and realize with one more win, they will be playing in the Western Conference Finals.
Game 6 may well be Detroit's game 7.
I will be posting through the day as need be, but will be taking some time off to enjoy this new day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the fine folks in The Sooner State and hope the many KK members and readers from Oklahoma are safe and secure.
Even though I lost my mom a few years ago, I still think of her especially when it comes to hockey.
One memory will always stand out.
During the Wings cup run in 1998, I was luck enough to win 2 tickets to watch game 3 of the SCF against the Washington Capitals, tickets courtesy of a local radio station.
It was a fly in a few hours before the game, go to the game and fly out. There was no doubt who I would be taking to the game and even though my mom was in her mid-70's and her health was in decline, I was determined to make it a trip she would never forget.
We had some time before the puck dropped, so we visited a local bar in the Washington area, right across from Ford Theater where Red Wing fans were gathering.
My mom became the hit of the pre-party, donning a Wings goalie cage mask and posing for pictures with many of the fans there.
When we arrived at the game, I noticed our seats were about 20 rows up in a nosebleed section and I doubted my mom would be able to make the steep climb. Thankfully a few guys helped me out and we basically lifted my mom up to our seats.
Of course the Wings won the game, went on to win game 4 to sweep the Caps but my highlight of the Cup run was one that lived on for years, seeing the joy on my mom's face whenever she talked about the trip. Her friends really never understood why make such a fuss over a game, but my mom always told them," I was there with my son, nothing could have been any better than that."
With only one game on the schedule tonight, Penguins/Islanders at 7:00pm ET, I am going to take it a little on the easy side today.
I've been putting in some long hours and need to re-charge a bit.
Posts will be a little less frequent today but back at it tomorrow in full force.
