Kukla's Korner Hockey
Enjoy your day Canada and I know what many of you will be doing today.
Our plans are to be around all day as usual plus we hope to have an embed of Sportsnet's coverage of the day too.
Many of you know this is not a one day occurence, but rather this period carries on for about two weeks, then slows down.
News of signings and trades usually breaks via Twitter first these days so focus will be on both Sportsnet and Twitter.
Hopefully signings/trades will slow down mid-July, then it is a time for a few days of R & R.
As always, thanks for your support of KK and enjoy what is sure to be a crazy time.
Oh and watch out for those fake Twitter accounts.
Spending almost 24 hours in an emergency room of a hospital is not fun but it did allow me to sit back and follow all the hockey stories out there.
I do get the sense during this open-talk period leading up to the UFA period on July 1st a lot of agents are, and rightfully so, building up their players.
So and so player has six teams showing interest, another has four, still another has multiple teams interested in his services.
In years past we have heard this kind of chatter, all coming from a source but this year everything is out in the open and the agents are taking advantage of it.
Meanwhile, GMs are not talking and rightfully so, why should they make public their intentions, it is better to be quiet and let other teams guess what is going on.
The prices of some players on the UFA market have not hit the peak yet, expect that to happen much closer to UFA Day.
In the meantime, expect more chatter on Thursday, the day before the draft and stay tuned, you never know what may happen.
Now, a little bit about me... New drugs prescribed, watch my diet, get some rest and relax when I can.
All easier said than done, but I plan to follow the directions as closely as possible.
Thanks for the numerous emails and comments regarding my health, they do mean a lot.
Our host may be upgrading their services and you may witness a service interruption sometime today.
Hopefully it won't last more than 90 minutes.
Sorry for the issue and the short notice.
It's over but it is just starting.
Yes, the 2013-14 NHL season is complete but that does not mean the hockey coverage stops.
Between now and let's say mid-July, KK will be covering the buy-out period, the NHL Awards Show, the NHL Draft, the UFA period and of course trades.
I want to thank all of you for reading and commenting at KK and on Twitter and hope to continue what we do on a daily basis.
Now sit back and prepare for all the off-season fun.
Enjoy the Memorial Day Holiday and please remember to thank a veteran for their service, today and every day if possible.
I am sure some of you will be heading out today for the long Memorial Day Weekend so please be safe and catch some hockey if time allows it.
I will be around all weekend, but tonight with no games I just may lay low and try to throw something on the barbecue.
In case you want to work around your weekend schedule, here is is the conference finals schedule through Monday night.
My computer needs a break and so do I, so tonight will be filled with R & R and back at it tomorrow morning.
However Monica may pop in with a post or two but I have a feeling it will be a slow night, everyone who covers the game could probably use a break too.
It is with great pleasure to announce Kukla's Korner has formed a partnership with Shnarped, which connects hockey fans to their favorite professional hockey players across mobile applications. Fans can track player news, stats, tweets, highlights and actually interact with many of the players themselves right on the app.
Shnarped connects fans to their favorite teams and players by way of a social platform. Over 1,000 NHL players and prospects are using the platform to connect with fans and one another. An unrivalled stream of news, stats, and highlights from all the pro, college, and junior leagues in North America can be customized, allowing users to always see the content most important to them. The core interactive feature - the pound - allows fans of all ages to congratulate the athletes and celebrate alongside their successes and players can respond in kind. This season more hockey fans have received messages from NHL players on Shnarped than on Twitter. The app can be downloaded for free at www.shnarped.com.
