All George McPhee

from Iain McIntyre of Sportsnet,

Sportsnet: Of the Knights’ accomplishment, what makes you most proud?

McPhee: There’s two things. We really like the people we’re working with. That means more than anything – to work with the high-quality people we’ve hired throughout the organization and the high-quality people we have playing the game for us. The other accomplishment would be how well the sport has been received in Las Vegas. We really needed this to work. The league needed it to work. Having a successful team in Las Vegas really increased the visibility of the NHL. We needed this to work, and it has worked well. And the roots can now grow deep.

Sportsnet: You told us that the Oct. 1 shooting accelerated the bond between the team and community like nothing else could have. Can you try to explain that for people who haven’t been to Las Vegas and felt that connection?

Notes From Larry Brooks

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

- It is not as if I’d relinquish a valuable asset to acquire him, but in the wake of the news Chris Kreider will be sidelined for at least two months and perhaps much longer than that, it would seem to make sense for the Rangers to check on the price of bringing Anthony Duclair back to Broadway for a look-see.

- I’ve never been mistaken as an apologist for Zac Rinaldo, but after getting popped with a six-game suspension, in the words of the Department of Player Safety, “for a punch to an unsuspecting opponent,” isn’t the only logical question to ask why on earth Colorado’s victimized Samuel Girardi wouldn’t have suspected what was coming?

George McPhee Is About To Get Real Busy

from Michael Russo of the Star Tribune,

McPhee’s phone is already buzzing with GMs trying to make deals in principle. He is permitted to eventually make expansion-draft trades with teams. In other words, McPhee says, “Maybe we take a pick or prospect to promise not to take this player from a team or to take a player from that team.”

“I’ve built high-flying teams in the past, offensive, entertaining teams and would like to do the same thing,” said McPhee, the Washington Capitals GM for 17 years. “What we do with the expansion draft hasn’t been settled yet because until we see the entire universe of what teams want to do, who they want to protect and expose, we don’t know which way we’re going to go.”

Afternoon Line- Rick Westhead On The “Jersey Ads”

If you missed the news earlier, start here and I agree with Westhead and I did not even include the "jersey ads" in the main story since I felt Collins was talking in general terms.

Yet it has become a hot topic of the day elsewhere.

All About Shoulder Pads

imageDown Low Hockey was recently added as an advertising partner on KK, and so you may have noticed this photo (on the right) appearing on the site. Given the nature of the product, we asked the company’s owner and designer, Dave Lewandowski, to answer a few questions for us.

Can you tell us how the company got started?

I designed the shoulder pads for my senior project while majoring in Industrial Design at Wentworth Institute of Design in Boston. The response to the pads was received so well that I decided to start Down Low Hockey and get the pads manufactured.

A dislocated shoulder gave me the inspiration to design a better pair of shoulder pads since I switched from small shoulder pads to big bulky pads after the injury.
