Winners!

Last week we put up a last minute contest for THREE gift certificates of $50 (for IceJerseys.com or shop.NHL.com) to be given away in a random draw. To enter the contest, some KK members were brave enough to share their favorite—and/or weirdest—hockey superstitions and rituals. Quite entertaining.
Winners will be contacted by email within 48 hours. They are:
- gosabres123
- eyesris
- hippy dave
Thank you to everyone for participating—the entries were great and it was good to be reminded there are other people are as nuts as we are.

What’s Your Superstition? Share and Win
by Alanah McGinley on 05/22/08 at 05:07 PM ET

[Note: Original post time was May 21, 3:09pm ET. I’ll be bumping it to the front page periodically. The entries so far are great!]
No amount of personal hockey superstitions have ever helped my Vancouver Canucks, but that’s never stopped me. From idiotic morning routines to game-day-meals, that team gets anywhere near the playoffs and I develop so many tics I’m like a strung out former heroin addict dealing with an OCD problem.
Fortunately I’m not alone. Kukla, for instance, bought this ticket in Nevada last November, betting $20 that the Red Wings take the Stanley Cup this season. Yet cocky as that may be, he’s been too superstitious to make mention of it to anyone. He only decided he’d let me mention it because, well, that doesn’t “jinx” things the same way, apparently.
See where I’m going with this? Well, yes: hockey fans are nuts. But also: We’d like to reward 3 of you with $50 gift certificates to IceJerseys.com or shop.NHL.com for sharing your own special brand of crazy.
What’s your most reliable superstition? Or just share your friend’s.
Winners will be selected by a random draw from the comments of this post. Enter by 5pm ET Saturday, May 24th. Rules are below.

All entries must be timestamped no later than 11:59pm ET on April 8, 2008.
Good luck!

A one-year subscription to the digital edition of The Hockey News! Winner will be decided by a random draw chosen from all the entries. (*Meanwhile, check out a trial version THN digital edition)

Update April 8th: Comments Problem
For some reason, comments aren’t showing up from the most recent handful of people who have entered the contest. We are working to fix this now. Meanwhile, please note that we are keeping track of those missing entries. They will be added to the comments below as soon as we figure out the technical glitch. (Update again: Problem fixed!)

And The Winners Are…

The Alexander Ovechkin Challenge closed rather quickly (given his determination to blow that 60 goal target we set right out of the water last week. Very nicely done, AO…)
And so, our official winners are:
- The Alexander Ovechkin Jersey goes to blueleafss who guessed closest to the correct time of the 60th goal.
- The Alexander Ovechkin Special Edition DVD goes to jsginsocal, who won it by a random draw from all the entries.
Both winners will be contacted by email in the next 48 hours. Thanks for playing, everyone.
Watch for the next Kukla’s Korner Challenge coming on April 2nd… we’ll have more fun stuff to give away to KK members (‘cause unfortunately, Paul won’t let me keep the swag for myself)! ![]()

Ovechkin Hits 60

Alexander Ovechkin scored his 60th goal of the season at the 11:30 mark of the 3rd period tonight.
It looks as if KK member blueleafss is the unofficial winner of the Ovechkin jersey. He predicted AO would score his 60th goal at the 13:53 mark in the 3rd period.
I will re-check all the entries and post the official winner on Monday.
added 10:43pm, Watch Ovechkin’s 60th goal…

Forget 50, How About 60!

[Updated March 10th —Originally posted March 4th. Deadline for contest entries is tomorrow. Details below.]
_______________________
Can Alexander Ovechkin get to 60 goals this season? You tell me!
Pick the game, period and time that AO will reach 60 goals this season. If you are the closest (in case of tie, a random drawing will be held between the winning entries) with your prediction, you win a replica Rbk Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin Premier jersey.
Also, anyone entering will be entered into a random drawing for an autographed, limited edition DVD from Alex’s Calder Trophy season, courtesy of the Washington Capitals.
To help you out, here is the Caps schedule for the season. I need the date of the game, what period he will get #60 and the time of the goal, NOT the time left in the period.
Closest to the correct time (over or under) will win the jersey. If Ovechkin does not get to 60 goals, a random drawing will be held for the jersey.
You must be a KK member to win (join, it’s free!) and good luck. Also, all entries must submitted in the comment section of this post (no emails) and must be timestamped by noon EDT on March 11, 2008.

With Daylight Saving Time (DST) just around the corner, I wanted to give KK members a heads-up to change your time settings.
Go into your KK Member Account settings (located near the top right of any page), go to Localization Settings, tick the DST box & update. Also, make sure your time zone is set-up to match your local time if you want KK to coincide with your local time.
Also, you have less than 3 days to enter the latest KK Challenge and win an Alexander Ovechkin jersey!

Tell Us Your Favorite Hockey Story
by Alanah McGinley on 12/19/07 at 06:47 PM ET
Comments (0)
This morning, I was reading this thread of people’s favorite personal hockey stories. This one gave me a laugh:
At a game between Cal State Northridge and Sacramento State while the refs were sorting out the penalties, Bryan Adam’s song ‘Everything I do (I do it for you)’ was playing over the PA system.
CSUN’s goalie takes his helmet off and starts doing some figure skater styled jumps (in full goalie gear) while belting the song out at the top of his lungs.
Anyway, it got me thinking about whether any KK members have a short-and-sweet hockey story they’d like to tell? If so, feel free to tell it in the comments of this post and I’ll do a random draw of all the entries on Friday at 12 noon (ET) for a $25 gift certificate to Ice Jerseys.com.
Just be sure you’re logged into your member account when you leave your comment entry. (And if you’re not a member, you can register here quick and easy).
P.S. I reserve the right to completely disregard bad entries… “I went to a game and saw a fight” doesn’t count! (Well, unless it involves cheerleaders, or something…) ![]()
