Holland Still Talking To Wings UFAs

from Red Wings Corner,

Holland said that Red Wings’ other three unrestricted free agents—Dominik Hasek, Danny Markov and Todd Bertuzzi—are still possible signees.
The Red Wings and Hasek talked several times Saturday. That the netminder hasn’t come to terms yet is somewhat perplexing to Holland.
“I’m cautiously optimistic ... I think he wants to see what we’ll do and how much cap space we’ll have,” said Holland. “At least that’s the way it appears.”

Wings Sign Rafalski

Rafalski comes home, now a Wing, per TSN but their site is down…

Update 4:06pm ET:

Rafalski is regarded as one of the top defenceman on this year’s free agent market.

Stay Away Sergei

from Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press,

If given the chance, Sergei Fedorov should tell Wings fans to “Shove it!”
There’s discussion that Columbus might buy out the remainder of Fedorov’s contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. The Wings could be interested: They could get him reasonably cheap and he remains one of the NHL’s best two-way players.

Wings Will Sit Back Today

from the Detroit Free Press,

“We want Dom in our net. That’s our priority in goal. If it doesn’t happen, we have to look at options, but I am cautiously optimistic we’re going to get him signed.”
As for Schneider: “He is going to hit the market,” Holland said.
Bertuzzi is headed in the same direction. Holland has spoken numerous times with Bertuzzi’s agent, but “we’re not any closer today than five days ago,” Holland said.
The Wings will have to get more aggressive if they lose both Bertuzzi (who may be eyeing a return to Vancouver considering the Canucks need scoring) and Schneider (who could end up in Anaheim if Scott Niedermayer retires).

Where Is Dom?

from Red Wings Corner,

Ken Holland hasn’t heard from Dominik Hasek lately and that should make Red Wings fans anxious. It’s a possibility that the two sides aren’t as close as has been reported in the downtown papers. Hasek might be looking for more money than is on the table.

Kenny should head to the Big Apple, he may find Dom there.

Update 8:32pm EDT
From the CP via TSN,

“I don’t think there’s a significant divide, but there’s no deal so we continue to go back and forth,” Holland said Saturday night. “We’ve had a lot of conversations over the last few days and hopefully we’ll talk again tonight or in the morning before free agency begins at noon.”
Hasek informed the Red Wings a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to play for Detroit again.

Wings Try To Lock-Up Their UFAs

from the Detroit News,

General manager Ken Holland continues to negotiate with agents for goalie Dominik Hasek; defensemen Mathieu Schneider and Danny Markov; and forward Todd Bertuzzi.
“I expect we’ll keep talking to all of them up until the last day,” Holland said this week.
A deal with Hasek could be struck today, probably a one-year contract worth from $2 million to $2.5 million.

Some Teams Still Don’t Get It

Here it is, June 27th but the headlines at Red Wings World ($39.95 to join and run by the Detroit Red Wings) still read…

The 2007 NHL Draft: June 22-23
With the 27th pick overall the experts expect the Red Wings to draft defenseman Tommy Cross, but don’t be surprised if they select Oscar Moller (C) or Bill Sweatt (LW).

Not much else to say…

Holland On The Wings

Wings GM Ken Holland was just on WDFN radio in Detroit… Holland mentioned how scary it would be right now if Datsyuk would be a UFA.
He is confident Hasek will sign and claims Wings will have between $11-$13 million to spend.  Wants to get Schneider signed and continues to talk to Bertuzzi’s agent.
Regarding Bertuzzi, said he could sign a 1yr contract with bonuses because he was on IR last year.  Wings doctors tell Holland his back is 100%, but he basically missed a year of hockey.  Wings feel he can be a 80 point man.
Holland was asked about Nashville, said everyone wants to see them stay.  Not good for the league if they move.

Hasek Could Sign By The End Of The Week

from Ansar Khan at Mlive,

By all indications, the Wings will sign Dominik Hasek later in the week. They’ll end up paying a little more than they anticipated, probably a base salary around $2.5 million, with another $1 million-plus in bonuses, but it’ll be worth it.

Free Agents a Wings Priority

From Ted Kulfan at Detroit News,

Beyond the draft, the Wings are trying to assess the free-agent market. Teams can sign unrestricted free agents beginning July 1.
In the meantime, the Wings continue to negotiate with their players, who are eligible to become free agents.
Holland expects to be busy talking with the agents for defensemen Mathieu Schneider and Danny Markov, goaltender Dominik Hasek and forward Todd Bertuzzi.
Holland and Hasek’s agent, Ritch Winter, are expected to work out a one-year contract long before July 1—possibly even this weekend.
It gets a bit dicey with the other free agents.
