Havlet Separates Shoulder

via the Ottawa Sun,

Ottawa winger Martin Havlat left the game in the third period with a dislocated right shoulder after being checked by Montreal winger Michael Ryder and falling into the boards. Senators coach Bryan Murray speculated Havlat could be lost to the team for a month -- maybe more. "I'm not a doctor and I don't know the extent of it, but normally it's a fair amount of time," said Murray. Havlat is due to have an MRI to assess the extent of the damage today.

Sharks May Shake It Up

from the Mercury News,

"I am patient and I believe in our players, but I'm not blindly loyal," Wilson said shortly before the Sharks flew to Dallas, where they will seek their first victory in 10 games tonight. "I have a responsibility to our team and our fans and this organization to live in the present." Wilson would not say if any deals were imminent. Most offers he has heard have been too one-sided, he said, as other teams try to take advantage of the Sharks' poor start.

The Statement Fits Many

You could probably replace the name Roenick with about 20 other names, and the statment would still be true. from the Long Beach Press-Telegram,

"I'm not happy with the way I've been playing, not at all," Roenick said. "There have been some games where I've played really well, and overall I don't think I'm doing anything extremely terrible but I also don't think I'm doing anything extremely good, which is unlike me. But I'll stay with it and I'll stay patient. "I understand that I'm older and that it's a different game now. It's different than it was a couple years ago, and I'm almost two years older than when I played before (the lockout). I really feel that I can get back to that level, because if I didn't think that way, I wouldn't even be bothering right now."

Florida Woes

from Al Strachan of the Toronto Sun,

The Panthers now have lost 13 of their past 14 games, the most recent being the 2-1 victory by the Maple Leafs on Monday. The announced attendance of 11,215 probably wasn't even half that -- despite the fact that the team is selling promotional tickets for 75 cents. And when you watch the Panthers play, it's little wonder that the crowds are consistently small. The concept of the new NHL with its open, offence-oriented game, apparently has escaped Martin's attention.

Ovechkin Being Noticed

from Reuters,

Just a quarter of the way into his first National Hockey League (NHL) season, Alexander Ovechkin has already made one thing abundantly clear -- rookie sensation Sidney Crosby is not the only new kid on the block. Ovechkin, a 20-year-old Moscow native, arrived in the NHL this year as a greatly touted prospect, bearing a rich athletic pedigree and the high hopes of his new team, the Washington Capitals.

Jiri Fischer Plans To Return

First I have heard of this, and I don't believe it... from Ted Montgomery of USA TODAY,

Make no mistake about it, if Fischer returns to play, he runs the risk of this happening again. If I had a similar condition and was hearing what I'm hearing from medical professionals, I would never play hockey again. The risk is too great. But Fischer has told the Red Wings that he needs to keep playing, and unless they can change his mind, he probably will return to the ice. I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Wings legal staff and Fischer's agent are at this moment negotiating the terms of his return. It's a sad situation for a 25-year-old guy who has never known anything but hockey in his life.

The Battle Continues

from Damien Cox, special to ESPN,

Fourteen months ago, the union representing NHL players was regarded as a significant and powerful force in the industry, having outpointed the league's owners at virtually every turn over the previous decade. They weren't as militant as baseball players, but these hockey boys had substantial muscle in both the corners and the boardroom. Supposedly.

Forget The Rankings

from the Michigan Daily,

Rankings don’t mean anything. It’s a cliché that’s used often in sports. But it fits like a glove with the Michigan hockey team. Coach Red Berenson and the Wolverines entered last weekend ranked first in the nation. Unfortunately, the team held to its recent form when it owns the top ranking. It dropped both games in the College Hockey Showcase in disappointing fashion to then-No. 7 Minnesota and then-No. 2 Wisconsin at Yost Ice Arena.

Busy Waiver Day

from TSN,

It's a busy day on the NHL waiver wire. The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed defenceman Ron Hainsey from the Montreal Canadiens on re-entry waivers. The St. Louis Blues claimed forward Simon Gamache from the Nashville Predators. And the New York Rangers claimed forward Colton Orr from the Boston Bruins.
more, including Thibault on waivers (which I think happened yesterday)

Can We Get An Answer OLN

As previously mentioned, the high definition broadcast of the OLN games will soon be on INHD on a delay basis. The first time this will happen is December 12th, when the Wings take on the Penguins. The screenshot from the INHD website confirms that, but trying to get information from OLN has been meet with unreturned phone calls and emails. Maybe someone can explain to the hockey fans why the NHL is playing 2nd fiddle to the NBA? image update 7:03pm, I just realized no HD game this week on INHD. Next scheduled HD game is December 5th, Wild against the Rangers.
