Dallas Close To Adding Barnaby & Halpern

The Stars are expected to sign free agents Jeff Halpern and Matthew Barnaby on Wednesday. Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong confirmed he was in discussions with the two players and said talks are "well down the road." "We are looking at players who can give us a little grit and a little bite, and those players certainly fall into that category," he said. "Plus, I think both can also add to our team character, along with a player like Darryl Sydor."

Who knew the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild would be such heavy hitters on the NHL free-agent scene? But they were, and they came out clear winners after a couple of frenzied opening days of free agency. The Anaheim Ducks also won the jackpot. They added former Norris Trophy winner Chris Pronger to a back end that already included Scott Niedermeyer, making the Southern California team an early contender for the Stanley Cup next season.

Robitaille Going To Philly

The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to terms on a contract with 5-foot-11, 195-pound center Randy Robitaille, according to general manager Bob Clarke. Robitaille signed a one-year contract. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed. "Robitaille was one of Minnesota's leading scorers last year," said Clarke in making the announcement. "He was their top faceoff man and can play center or wing. He had 40 points, is a really good skater and can play both ends of the rink. We believe that he'll add to our offense next season."

Cajanek Stays With Blues

The Blues Petr Cajanek to a two-year deal for $3.7 million. The Blues are likely done on the FA market however there could be further roster alteration via trades. The Blues are now officially out of the Brendan Shanahan sweepstakes.

Jeremy Roenick has signed a one-year deal to join the Phoenix Coyotes, a team which he played for from 1996-2001.

Jeremy Roenick is returning for second a stint in Phoenix, choosing the Coyotes over the Calgary Flames. The 36-year-old centre signed a $1.2-million US, one-year deal, plus incentives, with his former team Tuesday. "In the end I made the decision really because of my family," Roenick told The Canadian Press on Tuesday, adding that he's building a home in the Phoenix area. "And the fact I think Phoenix is going to be much improved with some of their recent moves." He said turning down an offer from the Flames was difficult.

Raycroft Signs 3yr Deal

Goaltender Andrew Raycroft has signed a three-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs worth $6 million. Raycroft will earn $1.8 million next season, $2 million in 2007-08 and $2.2 million in 2008-09.

Willsie Goes West To Kings

Brian Willsie is on the move after a career-best campaign. The 28-year-old right wing agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. Playing in his second season with the Washington Capitals, Willsie notched career highs in goals (19), assists (22), points (41) and penalty minutes (77) in appearing in a team-high 82 games.

Hilbert Signs With Islanders

The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with 25-year old forward Andy Hilbert, who finished last season by scoring 7-11-18 in 19 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and as a member of Team USA at the World Championships. "One of our goals is to provide opportunities to young players that our staff believes have potential and could be ready for a breakout," said Islanders Vice President and general manager Neil Smith. "We believe that Andy Hilbert is such a player."
