What To Make of Tim Kennedy and Todd White

As told to Rangers’ reporters today, Todd White and Tim Kennedy were placed on waivers today.

This was somewhat of a surprise given the positive things that were said about him throughout training camp and pre-season. However, after watching him closely in pre-season, it would seem that Kennedy was easy to knock off the puck.

I’m not saying that he didn’t work hard because believe me he did. He hustles, he hits and he has a tremendous amount of speed. With that said, however, he just wasn’t what the Blueshirts were looking for.

Rangers’ head coach John Tortorella said the following about Kennedy:

“As far as his camp went, it faded a little bit at the end, but he has some good talent and he’s a good kid,” Tortorella said of Kennedy today. “I thought he did some good things with us, as camp went on.”

Ranger Fan Feedback

It appears that New York Rangers’ General Manager Glen Sather has been busy over the last week or so.

First, he goes out and signs Alexander Frolov to a one year deal and then, gets rid of Donald Brashear and Patrick Rissmiller and acquires veteran Todd White. As such, Ranger fans cannot say that he hasn’t done anything this off-season.

I wanted to get your thoughts on a few things related to the Rangers:

- What do you think of the Todd White signing?

- What kind of player will Todd White be for the Blueshirts?

A Few Quick Thoughts on Todd White

Rangerland woke up today as the team acquired 35-year-old center Todd White from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for forwards Patrick Rissmiller and Donald Brashear.

On paper, this looks like one heckuva steal, especially considering that the Thrashers decided to buy out the remainder of Brashear’s contract and put him on waivers. In White, the Blueshirts get a player who can produce and provide secondary scoring to a team that severely lacks in that department.

Last season, White missed some time due to injury but put up 26 points in 65 games. Prior to last season, however, White had 73 points (22 goals and 51 assists) in 82 games.

As such, this is a player, when healthy, that should be able to put up in upwards of 50 points and take some of the pressure off guys like Marian Gaborik and Vinny Prospal.

What do you folks think of the deal?
