This past weekend, I was able to do an e-mail interview with Brian Monzo. Monzo is a hockey blogger and radio producer with WFAN New York, as well as the producer of NHL Live.
Monzo was kind enough to tell us how he got into the game of hockey, how he got involved with radio and his current thoughts on the New York Rangers. Take it away Monzo:
PH: How did you get into hockey?
BM: I got into hockey from playing with my friends as a kid. We all played baseball and basketball, but for whatever reason, we all took a liking to playing street hockey. Warm or cold, we loved it. Playing NHL 94 also a huge part of helping me learn the NHL and the players.
PH: Growing up, who was your favorite team/player?
BM: The Rangers were and are my favorite team. Originally I was a Darren Turcotte fan, but quickly moved to Adam Graves in 94. Still one of my favorite guys in the business.
Yesterday evening, I was lucky enough to interview former New York Islander, New York Ranger and Buffalo Sabre Pat LaFontaine for www.snyrangersblog.com. Here is some of what he had to say:
I was lucky enough to speak with Pat LaFontaine on the phone yesterday evening regarding a new program he is involved with – the ING (a financial services leader) Run for Something Better Program. The program is designed to encourage children to be physically fit.
As part of the program, he and Olympic speed skater Dan Jansen will be hanging up their skates and putting on their running shoes to participate in the 2009 New York City Marathon on Sunday November 1.
“ING realized a long time ago (7 years to be exact) that there is an obesity problem in our country as kids are not getting the physical activity that they should,” said LaFontaine. “It has affected over 50,000 kids in the United States and it is time for kids to learn about the importance of physical fitness.”

“A source close to SNYRangersblog.com has learned that Matt Gilroy, Hobey Baker Award winner (college hockey’s top player) from Boston University, is close to signing with the New York Rangers.
A call was placed to Gilroy’s agent, Kent Hughes, and he said that nothing has been signed yet and could not confirm whether or not the Blueshirts had signed him to a contract.
We are also in the midst of contacting the Rangers to see what’s going on with the situation.”

Update: ESPN is reporting that Gilroy signed with the Blueshirts.
In addition to my duties here at Kukla’s Korner, I will also be contributing New York Rangers-related content to SNYRangersBlog.com. It’s a great source for all Ranger news and notes with opinions from knwoledgeable hockey and Ranger fans Brian Monzo and Adam Rotter.
