This hockey blogger needs no introduction.
You all know him and his work well on the great Puck Daddy Blog. If you have negative feelings about Ryan and his work, please put them aside and check out the e-mail interview I conducted with him below.
By reading it, you will find out how Ryan got into hockey, how he became a hockey blogger, how he started his own web site and of course, how he got the great gig with Puck Daddy.
PH: How did you get into hockey?
RL: When I was about nine or 10 years old, my dad bought season tickets to the local college hockey team. I liked hockey just fine having been to a Bruins game or two, but it wasn’t by any means my favorite sport. For some reason, seeing it at the college level — the accessibility, the size of the rink, the fan rituals, whatever — hooked me. My parents used to punish me by making me stay home from those games.
PH: Growing up, who was your favorite team/player?
RL: I didn’t really have a favorite team I guess but my favorite player was always Teemu Selanne. When I was may be 12 or so, I went to a Bruins game with my dad on a Thursday night and I just remember being totally transfixed by him. Everything on the ice gravitated toward him. It was fascinating seeing the level of influence a player like that has on a game.
