A Look at the NHL season 1/3 of the way Through with Justin Kendrick of The Hockey Card Show

I’d like to bring back Justin Kendrick of The Hockey Card Show to take a look at the NHL season one-third of the way through along with his thoughts on his favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

PH: So, we are 1/3 of the way through the NHL season. What are some of your thoughts?
JK: So far the season has been great, a lot of really interesting story lines including flops and surprises. It is so hard to look at the standing at the 25% mark, trust me it was much easier (as a Leafs fan) to look at the standings after the 5% mark. A team can string together 10 games of greatness and be right up there with the big boys. Or a team can easily drop 10 and be relegated to hang out with the Islanders.

PH: Which teams/players have surprised you the most in a good way? Why?
JK: Most surprising player for me has to be Tim Thomas. After winning the Jennings and Vezina in 2009 his numbers went for a Tank (pun intended). He saw his win total decrease by more than half his starts shrunk and his GAA ballooned.

I was expecting to see Rask put the pressure on him this year but all he has done is looked insane, currently leading the league in save percentage, GAA, and shutouts. The only goalie category he is missing for the sweep is wins which is held by Price in Montreal who has 3 more wins but has played 7 more games. Oh, and did you see that save against Toronto? Save of the year.

A Season Preview E-mail Interview With Justin Kendrick

Keeping with the NHL season preview theme, I recently did an e-mail interview with Justin Kendrick of The Hockey Card Show.

Justin gives us his thoughts on the upcoming season. What do you think?

PH: We know the season has yet to begin but name the eight teams from each conference that will make the playoffs.
JK: In the West:

Detroit
San Jose
Vancouver
Colorado
Anaheim
Chicago
Nashville
Los Angeles

In the East:

Washington
Pittsburgh
Ottawa
New Jersey
Buffalo
Montreal
New York Rangers
Toronto

And I’ll go ahead and lock that in as the final placement.

An E-mail Interview with The Hockey Card Show

Good morning ladies and gents. Today, I am proud to bring you an e-mail interview I did with Justin Kendrick of The Hockey Card Show.

Justin was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to tell us about how he got into the game, how he got involved with The Hockey Card Show, what it was like to cover the World Hockey Summit and more.

Justin was also kind enough to provide us the link to a fantasy hockey pool as well as a chance to win a copy of EA Sports NHL 2011.

PH: How did you get into the game of hockey?
JK: I like that you ask “how” not “when”. How I got into hockey is a very typical Canadian kid answer. Street hockey was always being played by the older kids in my street when I was growing up. I would watch and hope one day I would be asked to grab a stick and play. That day of course came as they could not deny my pure talent…I mean they needed someone in net. Road hockey is where I learned the game, and where I learned how to play. I never played organized hockey growing up, I was far to busy playing hockey on my Nintendo and SNES (NHL 94 FTW) instead.
