Rangers Win Wild One Against Bruins

Going into the afternoon tilt, one probably thought it was going to be a defensive battle for 60 minutes.

Instead, 7 goals were scored with the New York Rangers coming out on top over the Boston Bruins by a score of 4-3. It was not easy but the Rangers did what they had to do to win.

For starters, the team was able to get two big ones in the first period on goals by Ruslan Fedotenko and Carl Hagelin. The goals came 1:10 apart as the team took advantage of a somewhat tired Bruins hockey club coming off a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders yesterday afternoon at the TD Garden.

However, Bruins’ head coach Claude Julien called a timeout after the second Blueshirts’ goal and did not say a word. Sometimes, silence really is golden.

Goals A Plenty in Rangers’ 6-3 Win over the Canadiens

This may be hard to believe but the New York Rangers’ have won three straight home games by outscoring their opponents by a 19-6 margin.

The Rangers’ latest victim was the Montreal Canadiens in a 6-3 victory. The team scored five goals in the first period with five different goal scorers in Artem Anisimov, Dan Girardi, Ryan Callahan, Marian Gaborik, and Brian Boyle. Vinny Prospal scored the team’s sixth and final goal in the third period.

With the win, the Rangers hit the 80-point mark and remain four points up on the eighth place Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes, who had a huge OT win over the New York Islanders last night.

For a team that struggles with offense, they certainly know how to beat up on team’s when given the opportunity to do so. Last night, the team took advantage of a Montreal Canadiens’ team that played the night before against the Tampa Bay Lightning and a somewhat tired Carey Price, who was yanked after allowing the fifth Rangers’ goal. It certainly was not Price’s fault as he had no help out there.

The team also got a strong performance from goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who picked up his sixth consecutive 30-win season. With the 30th win, Lundqvist became the first goalie in NHL history to 30 or more games in his first six seasons in the league.

The One That Got Away

Tonight’s 2-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens is one that I am sure the New York Rangers would love to have back.

The team let a 1-0 lead slip away at Madison Square Garden in the second period and then allowed the Habs to break the tie in the third period, both coming on goals from Benoit Pouliot. The second one was questionable considering the angle Pouliot shot it from and beat goaltender Henrik Lundqvist but nevertheless, it was the goal that sunk the Blueshirts.

This was somewhat of a “blah” effort from the Blueshirts. They were not as tight defensively as they were in their last two games against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues and their offense could not get the timely or clutch goal to give the team a victory.

Wojtek Wolski, making his Rangers’ debut, had a glorious chance late in the third period but it hit the post and was then cleared from the crease. Other than that, Wolski’s debut was solid as he showed his solid stick handling skills while also creating some offensive opportunities.
