The Blueshirts clearly need some offense and while Zuccarello is not exactly a Steven Stamkos or someone who can put the puck in the net on a consistent basis, he is someone that can create scoring chances with his speed, his willingness to go the net and his soft hands.
Rangers' team captain Ryan Callahan said the following to Strang regarding what Zuccarello would bring to the team:
"There's no secret we need to score more goals," captain Ryan Callahan said. "Bringing a guy in that can create offense definitely will help the team."
For the Rangers, this move comes at the right time. The team may be finding ways to get points but it is not because of their offense.
The club has been dreadful when it comes to scoring goals this season. In fact, the team is 29th in the league in goals scored and with the club fighting for a playoff spot, that simply is not going to cut it.
What also hurts is when the team loses in a shootout, which is exactly where Zuccarello comes in. In his first stint with the Blueshirts, Zuccarello was a shootout specialist and right now, the Rangers need to do everything they can to get two points on a consistent basis.
Strang also reported last night that Rangers' prospect Jesper Fast will also be joining the Blueshirts. Like Zuccarello, Fast brings speed and some offensive creativity and right now, the Rangers need anything to get them going on the offensive side of the puck.
Simply put, this team needs to find ways to create more offense and out more pucks in the net. Zuccarello and Fast might be able to help do those two things.
