Your thoughts on the Rangers’ game last night

It was nice to come home from playing hockey last night and see that the New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 1-0.

Unfortunately for me, I did not get to watch any of the game so I cannot tell you who was great besides Rangers’ goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (30 saves), the team’s defense and newcome Wojtek Wolski, who picked up the team’s only goal.

Luckily for me, my sports editor at Patch.com and long-time Rangers’ fan Bob Birge was kind enough to include me on an e-mail list that featured a bunch of team notes from his point-of-view:

Wolski becomes the 17th Rangers player credited with at least one game-winning goal, most in the NHL this season.

—- The Rangers lead the league in one-goal games with a record of 13-3-3.

The Rangers were never more than six games over .500 last season when they missed the playoffs for first time since 2004.

Hand the Canucks first regulation loss in 18 games (14-1-3), a streak that dated to Dec. 5

King Hank records his league-leading sixth shutout of the season and 30th career, tying him for third on the Rangers’ all-time list.

What were some of the things you noticed from the game last night? Who stood out to you? Which players disappointed you? How can the team use this as a confidence builder for the two games this weekend?

The team now gets set to take on the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night in Montreal. The Habs’ defeated the Blueshirts on Tuesday night by a 2-1 score so the Rangers will be looking to take another two points on the road.

If the team manages to win tomorrow night, they can continue to build their confidence before taking on a tough and talented Philadelphia Flyers club on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.

I didn’t get to watch as much of this game as I would have like to.  I primarily watch Western Conference teams so haven’t watched the Rangers much this season.  I was really impressed with their PK last night.  Especially when Vancouver had a 5 on 3 in the second period, they were able to shut down the shooting lanes very well.  King Henrik was definitely the King last night.

I love how no one stood out, yet the Canucks magically couldn’t generate many scoring chances.  Must’ve done it Lidstrom style

That record for 1 goal games is crucial.  Means they find ways to win when the pressure is on.  They could be poised to make a good push this postseason if they keep up what they’re doing.
