As Paul linked to earlier on the blog, Jesse Spector at the Daily News’ Rangers’ blog reports that defenseman Wade Redden will be placed on waivers:
Sather said that Redden did not seem too surprised when he got the news, that “he’d seen the writing on the wall.” The Rangers’ president and general manager said that he would accept whatever decision Redden makes should he clear waivers, whether the 33-year-old defenseman chooses to accept an assignment to Hartford or tries to find a job in Europe.
This will certainly be welcome news to Blueshirt fans everywhere as Redden simply did not work out on Broadway. He gave up the puck many times, did not contribute much offensively or defensively and rather than help goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, he was a liability.
Ranger fans will also welcome the fact that Glen Sather finally admitted that he made a mistake by signing Redden to that ridiculous contract back during the summer of 2008.
Hopefully, this was a learning experience for Sather and that in the future, he will not make the same mistake.
