Time to Get The Rangers’ Offense Going

It seems like this has been a key theme for the New York Rangers during the second half of the NHL season.

Unfortunately, the Blueshirts have had trouble doing so on a consistent basis, which will need to change fast especially if the team finds out Marian Gaborik will be out of the lineup for a bit (should know more today). Tonight, the team will need to start up its offense against the eighth place Carolina Hurricanes in Carolina tonight.

The Hurricanes are just two points behind the Rangers in the Eastern Conference standings and are 15-10-3 on home ice this season. With that said, the Rangers will have a hill to climb tonight if they want to get two points before taking on the Washington Capitals on Friday night.

As I mentioned up top, this team needs to start scoring goals. The Blueshirts need guys like Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, Wojtek Wolski, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle, and Vinny Prospal to all start putting the puck in the net with regularity.

Something else the team needs to do consistently is win hockey games. In the Blueshirts’ last 10 games, they are just 2-7-1 and in many of those games, the team simply let points get away.

Furthermore, according to team web site beat writer Jim Cerny, the Rangers are just 9-12-2 in the new year and in 12 of those 14 losses, have lost by either one or two goals.

The good news for the Rangers is that they have not been terrible. They have been in every game and have given themselves plenty of opportunities to win. Right now, it’s about the team finding ways to finish and pick up two points.

“We have the foundation done as far as who we are, but we need to find a way to win games,” said Tortorella. “And it starts right here and now.”

So with that in mind, the time is now for the Rangers to get back on the winning track and show that the first half of the season was no fluke. Come away with two points and the team will certainly be on its way to righting the ship once again.
