The Right Combination: Sather and Tortorella

Many of you will probably read this headline and say “what the heck is this guy talking about?”
While I understand your reasoning for doing so, the New York Rangers’ combination of general manager Glen Sather and head coach John Tortorella has been great for the organization. Due to Sather and Tortorella, the team is younger, has depth, an identity and an extremely bright future.
When Sather started out with the Blueshirts, there was no question that he was interested in signing overpriced free agents to try and get the team back to the top. When that did not work, he started investing in youth and making smart draft picks leading to guys like Ryan Callahan, Bradon Dubinsky, Marc Staal, Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider and more.
Tortorella is a coach that wants to see youth succeed and unlike Rangers’ past bench bosses, Tortorella is allowing the kids to do just that. He even made Callahan the 26th captain in team history and he knows that going forward, having good youth will be one of the keys to success for the Rangers.
With Sather and Tortorella leading the way, the team now has a lot of depth. This season, Tortorella will be able to roll four lines and know that each line has the ability to contribute offense. This is something that the Blueshirts have not been able to do for many years.
Lastly, under Tortorella, the team now has an identity. The Rangers work hard every single game, block shots, throw the body, and never give up. The team does this on a consistent basis and going forward this season, it could lead to very big things for the Blueshirts.
One might think I am crazy but if one does a further evaluation, one might see that I may be right.

I thought Torts was a bad fit but I’m changing my mind. I think he’s raised these guys now he’s going to let them play.
