Some Ranger Line-up Updates Via Twitter and Other Thoughts

Here are some Tweets from New York Rangers’ beat writer Andrew Gross regarding today’s line-up in the regular season finale against the New Jersey Devils:

Torts on Drury’s return: “He’ll give us some juice. Our captain’s back in the lineup.”

Torts says tough decision Gilroy over Eminger but thinks Gilroy can help get the puck out of the end zone a little quicker.

Drury in, Avery out. Gilroy in, Eminger out. Zuccarello in.

I am not quite sure what to think about the line-up changes that the head coach has decided to implement. While Avery has not played great, he is usually always a factor against Devils’ netminder Martin Brodeur. Yes, Drury is the captain and yes, it will be nice to have him in the game to kill some penalties and take key face-offs but to me, the move is still questionable.

I also do not quite understand why Tortorella decided to sit Eminger over Gilroy. In a big game like today’s regualr season fianl with the Devils, it is important, especially on defense, to have a veteran presence back there. Eminger had done a terrific job all season of being one for the Blueshirts.

Given that the Carolina Hurricanes won last night over the Atlanta Thrashers, everyone is going to be on pins and needles watching the game this afternoon. Should the Rangers lose this one in regulation and the Hurricanes either get to OT or win in regulation, the Rangers will miss the postseason for the second straight year.

Hopefully for the Rangers and their fans, they will be praying for a Hurricanes loss tonight, giving the Rangers the eighth and final seed in the Eastern Conference should they beat their Hudson River rivals today at Madison Square Garden.

I watched the last game and thought Gilroy looked really good once Torts moved him back to D. He’s been in many pressure situations, especially during my alma mater’s National Championship run in ‘09. Every game in the tournament except for one was insanely, nail-bitingly close, and he was the perfect co-captain in those situations.

Captain Clutch Drury (another former BU captain) seems to have had a good return so far!
