Now, that is exactly what the New York Rangers needed to do.
Last night at Madison Square Garden, the team scored the Montreal Canadiens for six unanswered goals and went on to win by a score of 6-2. The Blueshirts got terrific performances from the likes of Brandon Dubinsky (3 points), Ryan Callahan (4 points), Marian Gaborik (3 points), Vinny Prospal (2 points) and Chris Drury (2 points).
The six goals obviously ended the goalless drought at MSG and could prove to be a tremendous confidence booster as the team gets ready to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night at MSG and the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night in Philly.
The truth of the matter is that this team could probably play close to this every night, which makes them incredibly infuriating to watch. They have guys that are capable of playing this way all the time and if the team wants to have any kind of success going forward, it has to happen.
Like MSG/Rangers’ analyst Dave Maloney said on the post-game show, this team needs to show that they can do this again. Yes, it was a great win but like Maloney said, it’s just one win. The Blueshirts need to do this on a consistent basis.
With the win, the Blueshirts now find themselves in the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the Boston Bruins (who are currently losing to the Ottawa Senators) for the fifth spot.
Wins tomorrow night and Thursday night would certainly help the Rangers keep pushing towards and clinching a playoff spot come April!
