Rangers Set to Go Shark Hunting

If you’re still up at 10:30 p.m. tonight, I hope you hockey/New York Rangers’ fans will tune into tonight’s game between the Blueshirts and the San Jose Sharks.

After losing to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night and having a few days off, the Blueshirts find themselves in tied for seventh/eighth in the Eastern Conference with the Buffalo Sabres. Unfortunately, the Rangers are also just two points up on the ninth place Carolina Hurricanes, making tonight’s tilt with the Sharks even more important.

Over at The Rangers Tribune, Nicholas Montemagno wrote about how he agrees with Rangers’ beat writer Larry Brooks on having team head coach John Tortorella unleash sniper Marian Gaborik. I could not agree more as it is imperative that Gaborik gets his offense going as now is not the time in the season to struggle offensively.

I also agree with head coach Tortorella when he says that it is all about the Henrik Lundqvist show now. Lundqvist needs to bring his A-game the rest of the way if the Rangers want to have any chance of getting into the playoffs. Lundqvist has been quite good over his last few games so hopefully, he will be able to keep it up down the stretch.

There really is not too much left to say about this game except the usual. Guys like Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, Vaclav Prospal, Artem Anisimov, Mats Zuccarello and company all need to step up their games and contribute offensively.

On the back end, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Mike Sauer, Ryan McDonagh and the rest of the corps have to clear loose rebounds, allow Lundqvist to see the puck and clear the men in front. I know, easier said then done.

No matter how you look at it, every single Ranger needs to step up his game tonight and do everything he can to help the team come away with two extremely important points against a very talented Sharks’ hockey club. Is that too much to ask?
