Rangers set for second Pre-Season Tilt with the Red Wings

Tonight at Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers take on the Detroit Red Wings in their third game of the pre-season. The two teams battled it out Sunday afternoon at the Joe Louis Arena where the Wings clipped the Blueshirts 5-3.

According to Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants, the Rangers will ice the following lineup tonight:

Alex Frolov-Erik Christensen-Marian Gaborik
Tim Kennedy-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan
Sean Avery-Derek Stepan-Ruslan Fedotenko
Derek Boogaard-Todd White-Brandon Prust

Matt Gilroy-Pavel Valentenko
Michael Del Zotto-Michal Rozsival
Marc Staal-Mike Sauer

Henrik Lundqvist will play the whole game tonight as well as one of the two games against the Senators.

It’s great to see that Pavel Valentenko is getting another opportunity to play. He’s physical and has a great shot from the point, two things that the Blueshirts need going into the season.

It’s also nice to see Derek Stepan get into the lineup again, this time playing with Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedotenko. Fedotenko had a great game last Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils while Avery is in rare from.

Of course, if you’re a Blueshirt fan, you’ll also be focusing one how well the line of Frolov, Christensen and Gaborik plays. Will Christensen fit in with the two skilled forwards? Will he be able to battle to get them the puck? These are all questions that need a resounding yes from Christensen if he wants to get a lot of ice time this season from head coach John Tortorella.

It may only be pre-season but at least Rangers’ hockey is back!

Never once while he was a penguin did I ever think this guy might be a top line center in the NHL.  Good for you Erik Christensen!

Not a bad lineup - but poor Todd White between Boogard and Prust!

Still a pretty complete NHL lineup that ought to mop the floor with the wings.

Wings are Eaves-less tonight (Freep blurb).

Is it me or are the Ranger announcers under orders to happy talk everyone on the team.  I don’t remember this kind of blatant homerism years ago.  They talk about players as if they are all stars instead of the average players most of them are.  If I’m wrong please tell me, but I smell a rose colored glasses edict from Dolan.

after seeing the box score, perhaps it’s a good thing I couldn’t get this game.

I’m ready for the regular season so we might see some road teams win once in a while.
