Rangers Recall Sanguinetti

From Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:
Following today’s morning skate (and during my drive back home) the Rangers have recalled rookie defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti from Hartford (AHL), giving them seven defensemen on a surprisingly full 23-man roster.
Since coach John Tortorella said earlier this morning that the lineup remains the same and the six defensemen were all on the ice today in their usual pairings (Marc Staal-Michal Rozsival, Michael Del Zotto-Dan Girardi, Wade Redden-Ilkka Heikkinen), the thought right now is that with three games in four days and four games in six days, this move was made to give the Rangers a little flexibility. One difference, Sanguinetti, a New Jersey native who was the team’s first-round pick (21st overall) in 2006, is a right-handed shot while Heikkinen is a left-handed shot playing on the right side along with the left-handed Redden. Heikkinen said he was comfortable playing the off-side, something he did in Finland, and Tortorella also said it wasn’t an issue. The only time he notices it and where it tends to be a little more difficult, Heikkinen said, is the defenseman-to-defenseman passes. Sometimes, he’s passing across his body, which can limit his accuracy and power.
For now, though, expect Sanguinetti to be a healthy scratch. That will be updated if it changes.
