Rangers Learning to Bend, But Not Break

In yesterday’s 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins, did any of you New New York Ranger fans think that this game would go to overtime when the Blueshirts blew a 3-1 lead? I know that I certainly did.
However, this is a new coach, a new team and may be even a new era for the Rangers and as such, the team produced a new result for their fans yesterday afternoon.
Another positive result - the guys that scored the goals: Nik Antropov, Scott Gomez, Ryan Callahan and Nikolai Zherdev. If the team wants to continue to be successful and make a full court press towards clinching a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, these guys and other notables will need to continue to produce.
The team also got another strong performance from their netminder Henrik Lundqvist, who is one win away from turning in his fourth consecutive 30 win season. The King turned aside 36 of 39 shots, with 19 of them coming in a frantic third period.
If former head coach Tom Renney was behind the bench for yesterday afternoon’s crucial tilt, may be this match would have gone to OT or even a shootout, situations where the game could have gone either way and in a time where the Blueshirts need all the points they can get, yesterday’s result is just what the doctor order and just what new head coach John Tortorella was looking for.
Again, this team may have bent a bit when they let a 3-1 lead slip away, but they certainly didn’t break and a 4-3 win in regulation proved that.
