Rangers Impressive in Shutout win over the Leafs

It may not have been the most exciting game but the New York Rangers got the job done tonight with a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
For the Rangers, it was important for the club to get their offense going and for the most part, the team did just that tonight with goals from guys who do not score many of them (except for one guy). The Blueshirts got goals from Mike Rupp (4th goal of the season), Brian Boyle (his first goal in 22 games and 3rd goal of the season) and Derek Stepan (10th goal of the season and an assist).
Rangers’ netminder Martin Biron also had a solid game for his hockey club tonight. Biron picked-up his second shutout and 9th win of the season. While he was not bombarded with shots, Biron was good when he needed to be in making 19 saves and also adding his third assist of the season on Stepan’s goal.
With the win, the Rangers improved to 28-10-4 with 60 points. That has them first in the Eastern Conference (three points ahead of the Boston Bruins) and as of this writing, first in the NHL, one point ahead of the Vancouver Canucks.
The Rangers played extremely well defensively tonight. They limited the likes of Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Mikhail Grabovski and kept scoring opportunities to a minimum.
The team will need the same kind of effort tomorrow night in Montreal when they take on a struggling Canadiens’ hockey club. The lineup will more than likely stay the same with Henrik Lundqvist having a good chance of getting back between the pipes tomorrow night.
For now, the team will take the two points and think about picking up another two tomorrow night at the Bell Centre
