For the longest time, the New York Rangers used to be a solid team at home in Madison Square Garden.
This year, the story has been quite different as the team extended its record to 5-2 after shutting out the New Jersey Devils by a score of 3-0 at the Prudential Center.
For the Blueshirts, it was quite simple. Throw pucks to the net, finish your checks, block shots, let Henrik Lundqvist see the puck and play disciplined. When the Rangers are able to do that consistently, they are usually able to pick up two points.
Brandon Dubinsky had another great game for his hockey club as he picked up two goals, giving him 10 goals in 14 games. Believe it or not folks, that’s good enough to be tied for first in the NHL with Tampa Bay Lightning sniper Steven Stamkos and Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp.
Obviously, Lundqvist (33 saves) was also good in this game and he had to be because of the somewhat uneven game he played in Philadelphia the night before in a 4-1 loss.
What really makes you wonder is what this team is going to be like when Marian Gaborik, Chris Drury and Vinny Prospal all return from injuries. The team is currently 7-5-1, which places them fifth in the Eastern Conference. Imagine if Gaborik comes back and starts scoring goals like he did last season?
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on the St. Louis Blues (7-1-2) at Madison Square Garden. If the team can play at home the way they are playing on the road right now, they should be able to win hockey games.
