With yesterday’s announcement of a new hockey radio show hosted by the great Greg Wyshysnki (Puck Daddy) and Jeff Marek (Rogers Sportsnet), I figured now would be a good time to give you folks some more information from the show.
I was able to do just that by reaching out to Marek, who is a great friend of the blog. Marek took time out of his busy schedule to tell us how the idea came up to do a show and what the show will be aiming to do on a daily bais.
PH: You recently announced that you will be cohosting a new hockey radio show with Greg Wyshynski, a.k.a Puck Daddy. When and how did you and Greg come up with this brilliant idea?
JM: I don’t know about brilliant just yet, we haven’t even done a single show. I may end up driving this one right in the ditch. Honestly, it came out of a casual Monday afternoon conversation sometime in September. We’re talking about how the Puck Daddy Radio show was no longer on The Score and how I wasn’t doing a daily radio show for the first time in about 10 years and it kinda’ became obvious that we should try to find a way to come together on a program. The only challenge was getting Sportsnet and Yahoo! Sports to get together to do a deal. Turns out it wasn’t much of a challenge at all, both sides were eager and although it took a little while to make it happen there were no major stumbling blocks in the whole process.
PH: What goals do you and Greg have when it comes to the show? How do you plan on accomplishing them?
JM: Not sure we have any goals other than to provide a daily podcast focussed mainly on the news of the day, different opinions and interesting guests. It’s me and Greg, hockey headlines, guests and debates. Nice thing about doing it with Wysh is we both love a good scrap. And doing this as a podcast gives us certain liberties that traditional radio wouldn’t provide. Oh wait, maybe we do have a goal - we’ll try to keep the pro wrestling references to a minimum. Ryan Lambert puts the over under for each show at 5.5. I think we can beat that.
PH: It is obvious that via social media, you and Greg have some good chemistry. How do you plan on getting that to come through on the air?
JM: Yeah, social media. That thing. Well, you know me + Greg, we kinda’ live on Twitter to begin with so whatever we end up doing will have a soc media vibe to it. I just don’t know what that is now other than to read tweets on the air. Yes, very revolutionary, I know. So far the extent of it is coming up with our very own hash tag #MvsW. It was going to be #MvW until someone told me that stands for Miss Virtual World and as much as we may support super models in second life…....well, you know.
PH: Is there anything else you would like to share with Kukla’s Korner readers?
JM: Just thanks in advance for tuning in to the show. It’s going to be a constant work-in-progress so come along for the ride. It might be great or it might be the Shockmaster. Damn, there I go again.
