From good friend of the blog Stan Fischler at MSGNetwork.com:
Because his playing time was short in New York, few got to know Derek as well as freelance writer and magazine editor, Allan Kreda of Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan.
Boogaard and Kreda hooked up when the big forward still was playing in Minnesota for the Wild.
“Derek and I talked often when he skated for Minnesota,” Kreda told me. “At the time, we co-wrote a blog-diary for FHM magazine and that’s when I got to know him well.”
The Boogaard that Kreda got to know was a pleasant fellow and a joy with whom to work.
“He was endlessly accommodating,” Kreda recalled, “and gracious with his time and insights. Derek always struck me—as he did others—as a ‘gentle giant.’”
