Heatley and the New York Rangers: Would you do it?

From Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:

You point out that Dany Heatley wants out of Ottawa. Then you note that his $7.5 million annual salary approximates Scott Gomez’s cap hit to the Rangers, plus the fact that both have limited movement clauses in their contract. Then you wisely suggest that Heatley’s offensive prowess might be a good fit for a team that struggles to score like the Rangers.

Seriously, if you’re GM Glen Sather, you have to at least pick up the phone and see if there are any parameters to make a deal. No way the Senators do Heatley for Gomez straight up (at least I wouldn’t if I were the Senators) but would Gomez and a first-round pick do the trick, or maybe Gomez and one of the Rangers D-man prospects and/or a first-round pick. I’m not sure and perhaps the price goes too high. But, if you’re Glen Sather, you have to pick up the phone.
