That’s what the New York Rangers have been doing during this little unbeaten streak and it showed last night in a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers.
Prior to last night’s win, the Blueshirts never won a game when trailing after two periods. That all changed last night when Marc Staal, Brandon Prust, Chris Drury and Marian Gaborik all scored in the third period to lead the Rangers’ to a crucial win, one that gave them two points to put them in a “tie” with the Philadelphia Flyers for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference (the Flyers really have the eighth spot because they have the tie breaker).
A few weeks ago, many Blueshirt fans thought that the season was over and that they should start thinking about the draft. Well, not so fast folks. Yes, I was one of those that thought the Blueshirts would be better off missing the playoffs but you know what - I’m a true blue Ranger fan and even if this team is going to get knocked around in the first round, I would love to see them clinch a spot.
Everyone on the team is doing their part to make this a reality as they are scoring clutch goals, coming from behind, playing solid defense and picking up two points on a somewhat consistent basis. Who knows what position the team would be in if they did this throughout the season.
The play of the club’s fourth line should alsonot go unnoticed. Brandon Prust, Jodey Shelley and Artem Anisimov are creating chances by going hard to the net, playing physical and playing smart. It’s nice to see Tortorella utilizing this line a lot down the stretch.
The Rangers’ journey continues on Tuesday night when they take on a tough Buffalo Sabres hockey team. With another two points on the line, look for the team to do all the little things to stay in the hunt.
