Nicholas was kind enough to take time out of his summer schedule to give us his thoughts on the Alexander Frolov signing as well his thoughts on other Blueshirt topics:
PH: What do you think of the Alexander Frolov signing?
NM: I think the signing of Alexander Frolov was something that GM Glen Sather had to do in order to get his team (possibly) in the playoffs. Without him this year’s team would be fairly identical to that of 2009-10. As far as terms go, Slats got him at a bargain price and signing him for just a year was also a clever move.
PH: How do you think Frolov can help the Blueshirts this season?
NM: I think Frolov will help with the secondary scoring. He is a natural goal scorer and I think he can give some support to Marian Gaborik. Of course, this is why the two should not be on the same line. Frolov should play on the second line so the scoring is spread out.
PH: How do you think Frolov will be different from Nikolai Zherdev?
NM: Well I think Frolov will be very similar to Nik Zherdev, but he may be a bit more consistent. Frolov is more experienced, but still has the same problems when playing defense and backchecking. I am sure he will have a few run-ins with head coach John Tortorella.
PH: What else do you see GM Glen Sather doing this off-season?
NM: Personally, I think Sather is done for the summer, besides still having to re-sign Marc Staal of course. Once that is done, I expect Wade Redden to be dumped in Hartford come training camp and Ryan McDonagh to be called up on D for the start of the season.
PH: What do you think the team will do with defenseman Wade Redden?
NM: As I said above, I think Redden will be sent down to Hartford (AHL) but the team has to wait until training camp to do so. Once his salary is off the books and his skates off the ice, I think the team will be able to breathe easier.
PH: Would you like to share anything else with Kukla’s Korner readers?
NM: Be patient. The Rangers may have yet another disappointing season this year but help is on its way. Prospects are on their way that will change the landscape of the team as well as its skill level. Also, keep on reading the Rangers Tribune!
